I forgot to mention on the blog yesterday about our flight. Our flights ended up totaling about 18 hours in the air. Our bags didn't make the flight on the Hong Kong, Beijing segment, so we had to wait two hours for them to arrive. We met our guide, "George" after we picked up our bags. He lives in Shanghai and he's very nice. He asked me if I was an only child, I told him that I was, and he told me that would be a bonus here. Yesterday, at the temple of heaven, I got to use my Mandarin. I bartered for one gift for a long time and I finally got it at a reasonable price. I also helped one of the other people on our tour, Andy, buy two kites. I was able to get them for 42 yuan, which is $6 U.S. a piece, instead of the $15 that he wanted. Our tour guide, George, said that those kites would be $30-$40 on the cruise. It was really fun to negotiate with them. Anyone who knows me, knows I love to negotiate.
My mom and I are laughing about the food situation. Let's just say, my dad needs more food than they realize. :). We are off to the Great Wall today. Stay tuned...

Aunt Wende, Uncle Bob & Grandma Grace Hi Tony, We are very proud of your negotiating expertise! You paid only 15 % of the cruise ship price, so maybe you should buy in bulk and do some arbitrage selling on the cruise ship. :-) Watch out for the labor camp scouts though. Sounds like you might need to negotiate some supplemental meals for your Dad. We've heard that bean curd and MSG can be very filling. We love you guys. Aunt Wende, Uncle Bob and Grandma Grace
Diane Hi. Tony, now there's an example of the pot calling the kettle black. I've seen you eat. You can keep up with your dad. Negotiate me some jewelry, will you? Love you
