It felt good to wake up rested and not be freaking out about being here. I woke up at ease and very eager to start working. I've noticed some trends in the house so far that make me laugh. First, night time is for skyping and texting moms/boyfriends. If you walk upstairs, there's not a single volunteer just sitting there. Except me occasionally, which is why I need to find a book to read. Second, I've been the first one awake both mornings, along with my buddy Dan that got here the same night as me, and I don't think that'll change at any point in these 3 weeks. It's perfect cause I can beat everyone to the coffee downstairs. I happy to be able to have a cup of coffee and a glass of water each morning like I do at home. But, I don't get to watch the news. Instead I listen to the cars driving by, the random dirty dogs barking, and the footsteps around the house. It's not so bad! Third, the breakfast spread is gonna be the same everyday. Bananas, bread, coffee, and some ham type of meat. I had to try it today cause I haven't been able to get my hands on some protein. It's all carbs :(
I have my orientation today and I am so excited. The the other volunteers say that I will be working only half days since I will be taking Spanish lessons the other half of the day. I can't wait to get in to those classes, because I want so bad to communicate with my host family. I've been getting a little better when I come downstairs and it's just Enrique (the cook)(like I said, their rich Ecuadorians) and I and he talks slower to me and I work in a new phrase every now and then. It's funny how universal a smile is.... So I just smile a lot here... Except when I'm walking in the streets. I want those guys to know I can beat their butts if I have to :D
