Went back into Albi to see the sights. Then moved on again, heading for the Tarn Gorges near Millau.Milau boasts the highest suspension bridge in the world. We could see it over 25km away. No, (Kim), we didn't go over it, it is part of the peage (toll) motorway, and we are doing our best to avoid them (boring & costly). Passed through some really beautiful French villages clinging to the sides of hills. We are in the Mid Pyrenees now so the terrain is much hillier and the roads winding (lots of Sarah's favourite hairpin bends….. so far she hasn't stopped the van & refused to go any further but it can only be a matter of time).
Staying in a campsite tonight, 3 days in aires & we both need a proper loo & showers! The aires last night had no facilities at all & we had to resort to using the van's 'emergencytoilet' for a pee (4pint milk carton with the top cut off)!
The site is on the banks of the river Tarn just inside the Tarn Gorges. The area looks like a mini Grand Canyon, the river Tarn is crystal clear and we are going to treat ourselves to supper in a restaurant tonight…..Weather overcast but hot.

This place reminds me of the other place where me and the b****es used to live, down by the river."Gonna have fun, fun, fun 'til the b****es take the T Bird away……"

Tried to programme Ozzy to guide us through the gorges but he was insistent on taking us another route (think he knew Sarah's hatred of hair pin bends), so switched him off and relied on Sue's map reading skills for the first time so far this trip. The road follows the river Tarn right the way through the gorges winding up and down the side of the gorge. Not for the faint hearted in places but the incredible views make it all worthwhile. Most hairy moments were when we met coaches full of tourists coming the other way, when you see the tunnels cut through the rocks you can't imagine how a coach could get through! We both decided that we will definitely come back here and spend a holiday camping & messin' about on the river (Sarah was remarkable cool, even taking some bends casually with one hand)!. Took us 4 hours to drive the length of the gorge, about 80 km so it was slow driving. After stopping to shop in a town called Ales (definitely a place to miss if your ever this way, full of scary looking French people & slums) We finally arrived in Avignon at 7.30pm. Camp site right on the river with a view from the bar of the famous bridge. For those not aware of it, there is a French nursery rhyme about it….'Sur le pont d' Avignon'. Very popular tourist place, loads of campers of all nationalities. A nightmare to negotiate in a vehicle, Ozzy had us going round in circles because the directions were so quick we kept missing the turnings. (Sat Nav is the best thing invented since the wheel, don't leave home without it)!

The damn mozzies are drivin me mad….still, I got a bowl of chips last night, they didn't give me any of their pizza though. Didn't get much kip today in the back of the magic silver box, it was rockin& rollin all day.
