18th June
Apologies for Drums blog content again! Perhaps the heat is going to his head. Loosing count of the days! We know the date coz of the blog, but we thought yesterday was Thursday, seems we're a day ahead. No probs though, it means we can chill out today. One of the problems with travelling is that you feel that you must see all the sights at every stop because you move on again so quickly. Today we are just resting by the van.
We were lucky to find a camp site last night, they were all full and at 8pm we had'nt found any where to stop. There are no aires in this area & we were beginning to think that we would have to go inland to find anywhere. Third time lucky, Ozzy found us this lovely little site in Cagnes sur mer, about 10km from Nice. The lady owner said she had just one space left for a 'petite camping car' it's a lovely shady spot under a tree. (Top tip… always check clearance when putting the top up on the van… missed a huge branch of the tree by micro millimetres). Camped next to 3 huge hairy ass German bikers who were real Gents! Asked them for some recommendations for when we visit Germany and they've put crosses all over our maps. Stayed on site and chilled all day.

Had croissants and a sausage for breakfast, stretched, farted and slept all day in the shade.

Visited Haut de Cagnes, another medieval village this morning before heading for the Italian border. Another beautiful place, too hot to walk around, so sat and soaked up the atmosphere.
Whole trip today on the peage & autostrade (motorways) as the costal route would take 13 hours.
ALL PRAISE to Sarah for keeping her cool on the viaducts of the Italian A10 & A12 along the south east coast. As the autostrade winded around the coast, the viaducts connect the mountains and tower magnificently above the coastal towns and bays below. She didn't see the views! Her knuckles were white and when we finally arrived at La Prezza, she could hardly let go of the steering wheel. The highlight of the whole 'white knuckle' drive was an intersection just outside Genova in the aptly named area of 'Nervi'. As we passed over the soaring intersection Sarah commented ' s***! Its put together with staples & effin Leggo!!' Even I admit it was scary in places. Sarah's first Italian words were ' Where's thebario? I need a effin beerio!' It's the weekend and the campsite is packed with chavio type teenagers. My French was ok but I have no idea ofItalian, so communication is via phrasebook. So far they all seem very pleasant, our neighbours gave Drum a sausage within minutes of our arrival, he said 'mucho grassyarse' of course. Cooler today 27°c night time low!

Croissant for breakfast, fly for dessert….. I've got the knack of catching them now, just have to be careful not to catch a wasp.
Italian sausage makes you fart!!
