After breakfast and check out we headed into the centre of St Augustine and parked at the old jail. We were just in time to get one of the old trolly tours. We spent the next few hours on and off checking out the historic town. We stopped at the pirate museum which was interesting including a sort of treasure hunt looking for secret drawers. We bought a super cool octopus key holder there.
We wandered around the narrow streets checking out some of the shops. One had handmade beachy carvings and knick knacks. We bought a carved wooden turtle, now all we have to do is get it home in one piece and not get it confiscated at customs!
Back on the trolly, more interesting info re the fort and various occupations by Spain etc and fires that had wiped out the entire town at different times. Next stop for us the distillery. It's relatively new and small but they make vodka, gin, bourbon and whiskey. We got a tour and free sample of each made into cocktails. Back in the trolly, lots more interesting stops including the lovers tree, a palm that grows through an oak.
Back to the car park and we set off north to Amelia Island, the bad weather caught up now and then but still, nothing too major for the most part.
Checked into the Marriott and settled in, not moving for the rest of the afternoon and evening. We did some work, paid bills and checked in with Lee across the evening. Some cheese, hommus and crackers with a couple of ciders was a perfect dinner before bed.
