A slow start to the day, after a bit of a sleep in and breakfast we went off to expore a bit.
We drove down some narrow streets with the oldest houses on the island and then onto the more touristy historic downtown. It's a bit Noosa-ish but not quite as bad. Loads of places to eat, buy souvenirs etc. we bought a stubble holder and a couple of t shirts with slogans re salt water.
Another drive checking out the beaches and ended up stopping at Sliders for lunch. In front of the bar/restaurant is a gorgeous beach. A sign clearly states 4WD vehicles can go on the beach and many had, there were vehicles all over the beach and lots of people but oddly none were actually in the water, not sure what that was about. A small sedan, def not 4WD was bogged not far from the entrance to the beach, three young women were talking to police and a recovery vehicle arrived as we left the beach. Probably not their smartest move of the day lol
Sliders turned out to be a fun place. We got a table on the balcony and enjoyed a few drinks listening to the band playing below. They mostly played older stuff, eagles, Steve Miller Band etc perfectly suited to this old girl lol
For no better reason than cos we could Pete got his beer in a souvenir glass that lights up and I got a cocktail in a pirate monkey coconut cocktail holder lol hopefully we can get the coconut into Aust.
It was a thoroughly entertaining way to spend the arvo, good food, drinks and entertainment & a bit novel as it's not something we ever do at home.
A chick at a table below us had clearly enjoyed the day a bit too much and crashed off her bar stool, they got paramedics in to cart her off; all very undignified!
We headed back to our hotel and did some work for a couple of hours, watched some mindless tv and generally relaxed.
About 8pm we headed to the nearby supermarket and grabbed some hot chicken and frozen veg for a simple dinner. Our room has a full kitchen but this year we've opted to not drag a lot of food prep stuff around & don't have the basics, oil, spices, cornflour etc so are sticking to mostly eating out only preparing simple things now and then. Other than MACNA when we never cook we are here less than two weeks so it just wasn't worth doing our usual thing.
Dinner, some more mindless tv and we crashed out for the night.
