We slept badly, waking far too early perhaps aware of the need to be ready by 9am to be picked up by A& A.
They dropped us to the car rental place where we collected our ride for the next week. I asked for a free upgrade having only paid for a Camry it was a nice surprise to be offered a charger.
First order of the day was a trip to the nearby IHOP for breakfast, the best deal included a breakfast desert; doughnuts with either strawberries or maple bacon. They were equal parts disgusting and delicious lol
Armed with some street names from Ann we set off to find where my great great grandmother was born on Conti St and later lived on Derbigny St. It continued to be drizzly so a quick pic out the car window was the best we could do.
Heading out of NOLA we passed cane fields and swamps lined with Cyprus trees adorned with moss. The sky was ever brooding and threatening rain but mostly only coming up with the odd sprinkle.
We stopped at a Walmart to get some basics, water, fruit and some lunch fixings.
Along the Gulf Coast the ocean looked more like hot chocolate than blue sea, more obvious when juxtaposed against the white sand and waving toitoi. We crossed many bridges, some rising up quite high to allow the passage of boats. We passed many brown pelicans all looking dirty when compared to ours and other sea birds.
We stopped for lunch by the beach but ended up eating in the car due to really high winds.
From Louisiana through Mississippi and Alabama it was mainly fine, even close to blue skies at times. Just short of the Alabama border the music stopped on the radio and an official tornado warning was broadcast. We missed all but light showers.
We checked into our hotel for the night in Pensacola, again light rain and overcast. We are hoping we can explore a bit in the morning.
Checking out nearby places for dinner we found one and drove there. When we got to it there was another next door with way more cars- usually a sign of a good place to eat so we switched plans. Emblazoned across the roof was great beer, good food and fabulous views. The name should've given us a hint but until we entered we were unaware. Greeting us was a perky young lady in short shorts and barely there top with her "twin peaks" prominently displayed lol
Said perky waitress turned out to be very nice and the meal was excellent, better then the one hooters we've been to on both the food and view front.
Back to the hotel, watched some shows, did some overdue laundry and that was it for the day.
