Day four Skagway
We woke about 9am having docked at 7am. From our balcony all we could see was a rock wall with the names of vessels that have at some time called into Skagway.
After breakfast we headed into explore town. It's not huge and a rush of traffic means seeing two cars in the road at once lol for the most part you can stand in the middle of the road and take pics without fear of a car coming along. Once again it was the usual assortment of touristy offerings and photo op restored buildings causing the Red Onion Brothel. They do tours of the brothel and I had thought I might do that but didn't get up early enough to join the tour offered by the ship.
I bought an epicurean offering for Dad as a gift and a moose poo Chapstick for myself. For those interested, Moses poo tastes a lot like peppermint lol
Back to the ship for a light lunch and we set off for our adventure on the White Pass Railroad. It was gorgeous mountain scenery, waterfalls, rivers and forest. We both spent the bulk of the trip up out between the cars chatting to a couple form Quebec and photographing some pretty amazing scenery. The train passes briefly into Canada where it changes engines from one end to the other and heads back down. While at the change over point it was announced that Zoe had just completed her first year on the the railway and as is tradition would take a plunge into the icy looking lake beside the train track. Not sure if they were pulling our legs or not we all craned to see and sure enough she came out and dropped in, did a few strokes and hopped out. She then did a sort of victory lap walking the railway line, brave girl!
For the return trip we changed sides and flipped the seats for a different view heading down. I mostly stayed inside to hear the commentary. While Pete, ever the lover of the cold stayed out on the platform and chatted to the brakemen and took some more pics.
Back at the dock we walked down to the end of the pier to miss the crush of everyone getting back on board at once. It was quite a ways down but lovely and warm as the sun was now on this side. A seal briefly poked his head above water and looked as startled to see us as we were to see him lol the water is beautifully clear and we saw multiple large jellyfish.
Back on board we went for a light snack and cocktail and chatted for some time to the Aussie couple we met in line waiting to board. The back deck was lovely in the sunshine but got chilly very quickly once the sun went down.
