The last few days have been full of both intense and intrepid adventure. Me and Grimtang hired motorpeds (very safe and sturdy ones) and did an island tour. It was truly breathe-taking, as most things here seem to be. Me and Grimtang started in Uluwatu which is quite possibly one of the scariest surf beaches I've ever seen, 12ft high waves and we were laughed out of the store when we asked to rent boards and listed our surfing experiences (english waves and next to none). Good times
Then we hit up Sanur which is this chilled beach town and had basically a lot of food and nothing much more. Ubud was our next destination, this is where is got pretty interesting. Met this cool bar tender Bedu, who is this heroic mojito mixing, pina colada slaying dudemeister. He took us out to the one local club... which i have to say... was similar in cheesy music and popularity to the Litten Tree (Yates). Met this freak ass, psycologically disjointed, universally naive and whole hearted weirdo from Leicester - she believed Jesus had sent her to Bali to start a new life.... basically one of those conversations you try to end quickly. Then saw a girl with hairy armpits... and then saw the back of that place as we ran for our lives.
Anyway, drove up to the volcanoes after that to see what the fuss was about, it was really pretty god damn scenic, this range of volcanoes with lakes in the middle etc etc... all good fun.
We then headed to Balian beach which once again is a crazy surfer town and quite honestly nearly died surfing. The waves were about 10ft and just getting out into them made you ache all over - plus longshore drift (LSD) you end up a million miles away hurting like a biznatch - gotta love LSD.
We then got back to Kuta to find the whole place over run by Swedes, I kid you not, everywhere you turn you will see a huge group of blonde drunken swedes, but what are you going to do hey.
Leaving Bali tonight, in 4 hours time and it really has been an experience. Both the culture and the people have been astounding. Apart from the police, who we had to pay off twice as they're money grabbing snakes in the grass, this place has been an unforgettable time of my life. Being away from Kuta will give you a true appreciation of Balinese culture, away from the aussie/swede-centric and drink orientated party capital there really is a depth to the country. Me and Grimtang have of course championed the English side throughout Bali - gotta love the Brits.
Australia here we come. Take it easy hombres
