Hi all,
a quick update for all those who are interested.
Walked a section of the Queens charlote track whilst in picton, 30 min boat ride then a 6 hr walk and a boat pick up and a 20min ride back to harbour. The views were stunning and met lots of friendly people along the way, canadians, kiwis and the english(moaning about the hills and heat !)
Carla went wine tasting so we parked the van in town, upon my return we had been left gifts on our windscreen in the form of 52 dollers worth of parking tickets !!, 40 for parking facing the wrong way and 12 for exceeding a 1hr parking by about 6 hrs, apparently the number under the sign isnt how many spaces but how many mins !! opps
went the next day to pay fines, the lady was ace, straight away she said are you from the uk and cancelled the silly face the wrong way fine ! its so good here !
Then we headed to the east coast for a dolphin swim, however all booked up for days so we have booked it for feb and well get a bus from christchurch.
Headed right across to the west coast now, a long drive but carla has again been trusted to share. stopped the night in Hikitika, on the high street to be exact, this place is the jade stone carving town, some impressive stuff.
Headed next for the glaciers, Franz joseph was first, carla booked us on a full day adventure, crampons etc, was a special place, the guide has a pick axe and cuts a route through crevasses etc was had work , well worth it.
Fox glacier was next, a nice town buzzing with life, again carla spots an advet to do our skydive over the glacier and nz highest mountain, mt cooke, landing nr the town, so a senic flight for free, a call was made and we were booked for 8am the next morn, the sun was up, no wind or cloud, 12ooo ft, same as mt cooke, I just can't explain the feelings, the free fall for 45 secs was the best feeling I have ever experienced, and the 5 mins under the canapy were out of this world, we were allowed to take and use our cameras during the flight and glide back home. IF ANY OF YOU GET THE CHANGE TO DO THIS, DONT HESITATE, A MUST DO BEFORE YOUR TIME IS UP, I MEAN IT !!!!
SO TO TODAY, ARRIVED IN wANAKA, TOWN WITH MASSIVE LAKE, WATERSPORTS ETC SO GOING FOR A LITTLE SHUFTY AROUND AND SEE WHERE WE END UP NEXT.
Just the bungie in queenstown to do and ill be a very happy, unemployed man.
