Hey guys,
lots of different things to tell you about the past week and a half, we've done loads of stuff since Cairns. We went White Water Rafting in Tully on grade 4 rapids, the highest grade you can get is a grade 5. It was a pretty good day, and we even got the pleasure of seeing our rafts guide's feet, as he had 3 toes bitten off by a crocodile some time ago. I have to admit I was the only person in about 6 rafts to fall out of the raft.. its quite shameful but i was trying to get our raft unstuck between 2 big rocks and as i went for one last nudge i jus fell out backwards, whoops!
The next day we travelled down to Airlie Beach, the stop off point on mainland for sailing the Whitsundays Islands. Really really good day, we met up with our mate Daisy again and hopped on the sailing boat named Camira. Free morning and afternoon tea as well as a free lunch time BBQ, and free beer and wine all day, nice. We stopped off at the beautiful Whitehaven Beach, which we were told was as soft as flour, we weren't disappointed, it was so fine. We played beach cricket and touch rugby whilst we had an hour there with some of the other guys on the boat. MTV was also there filiming a documentary on Contiki tours, who just happened to be on our boat, so i dont know whether we're on the movie or not but i doubt it as we didnt have to sign a disclaimer form.
We then left the next day, incidently the 19th anniversary of my birth, to the outback on a cattle ranch in a random place called Kroombit. We learnt how to crack a whip, which Josh found watching me really hillarious because its quite hard to learn how to at first and everytime i couldnt do it my frustration grew! Plenty of drinking games and celebrations due to the fact it was my birthday and our fellow Oz Experience buddies were up for a really good night. We also took part in the buckin bronco but I lasted like 2 seconds, i was far too drunk to work out a stragedy to stay on! The next morning we were in for a treat, although having to be up at 7:30am with a horrifying hangover, we got to take part in a mini rodeo where groups of 3 got the chance to chase and catch a goat by its horns or back legs, whatever took your fancy, and flip it over and brand it(not properly). It was very entertaining especially watching the guys catch the goat because it was quite difficult and just did not want to be caught!
That afternoon we travelled to Rainbow Beach, the stop off point for yet another world heritage site in Australia, called Fraser Island, voted the number 1 thing to do in the state of Queensland. We were in a group of 10, there were 3 english blokes, 6 swedish guys and a girl swede, and we hired a 4 Wheel Drive to go to Fraser Island, where we camped out for 2 nights. It is infact the biggest sand island in the world, plenty of psammoseres for you geography lovers, many memories from Portugal coming back to me. It is also the only place where there are pure bred dingos, there were plenty about and lots of warnings to be 'dingo friendly' because they can become vicious, but really in my eyes there were hungry dogs. On our last day we visited a place called Lake Wabby, a guy we met in Kroombit, Angus and I, went to look for the public loos, and on our way back we encountered a snake as we were running back. Angus nearly stepped on it and jumped 6 feet in the air and ran away and screamed like a 12 year old girl, it was the highlight of my day!
Now we're chilling out here before tomorrow where we head off to Noosa, where theres meant to be plenty of surf, so Josh is gettin ready, he's very anxious to get there! Spk to u soon.
