Hey guys just chilling out in theYHA in Canberra, which seemsto be the most unpopular place in Australia within most Aussies. We've just come from Melbourne, a much more popular city! It does indeed have the fantastic honour of being our longest stay out of anywhere on our travels so far and we'd like to take the chance now to thank Ned for accommodating us as well as showing us the ways of Melbourne. He firstly took us out of Melbourne for a bit of a surf but unfortunately the waves just weren't there, as it has been the general pattern of our luck looking for waves since we've been in Australia. We did venture though Torquay and the world famous Bells Beach, where the Ripcurl Pro Surf Comp is hosted annually, and both beaches are on the famous Great Ocean Road with some spectatular scenery.
Not only did Ned show us some of the areas outside Melbourne, but took us to Northcote's, the suburb in Melbourne in which Ned lives, most glamorous lesbian bars! Otherwise, during the day we both persued in a lot of walking around the CBD and the River Yarra just checking out the sites of Melbourne in the nice sunshine, a bit cooler than further up the coast which was a bit of a nice change, rather than sweating all the time!
Other activities we participated in included AFL World and the Melbourne Observation Deck. AFL World is an interactive museum obviously decidated purely to AFL, where you can play the latest AFL Xbox games or take part in the interactive kicking or passing games to test your skills out, so you can tell we both had a go! The observation deck held an almighty view across the whole of Melbourne aided by an absolute stunner of a day!
Other than that we did manage 2 aussie rules games in at the MCG. The first game was Ned's team, the Western Bulldogs vs Richmond, where the Bulldogs were victorious, with a mere 30,000 people attending compared to the ANZAC Day (public holiday to commemorate war hereos) special where exactly 90,508 people turned up to watch Essendon vs Collingwood, it was some atmosphere! Especially as it was a close, tense affair with Collingwood just edging Essendon out at the end!
As well as your normal touristy stuff, of course we treated ourselves to a couple nights out, Brusnwick street being a famous spot around Melbourne, where we saw a great band called Lauren. The last couple nights we stayed in the beach suburb called St Kilda, which was nice to get out of the city in a more chilled out relaxed atmosphere, but when there was ladies night with free champange, and we were in a room pretty much full of ladies convincing us they'd get us free champagne too, how were we to resist?! yehhhh good times! anyway thats all we have to say and hope everyone is well! spk soon!
