The time has come to leave Koh Samui and the islands of Thailand behind! Writing this now(1 month later) I do miss them but at the time I was fine with leaving for one reason and one reason only........sand!!! I was just fed up of having sand everywhere! I swear there was more sand in our bed in the hotel in Chaweng than there was at the beach! It was like sleeping on sand paper. I just needed to look at a stretch of beach and there'd be sand between my toes and behind my ears! We get picked up by minibus from our hotel at noon and are taken to the north of the island for a ferry back to the mainland then another big bus to Surat Thani (sounded Sue-Rat Fanny! Haha still cracks me up! Anna didn't find it funny....sometimes I yearn for a travelling partner with a sense of humour)! From Sue-Rat Fanny we board our night train back to Bangkok. I was extremely excited by this having never been on a train overnight before. When we were shown into the carriage there was two bunks on the left hand side and what looked like a cupboard with two doors on the right. After trying a couple of times to open said cupboard I quickly realised that it was actually locked doors opening into the carriage next door. A few hours later after watching a movie we got the bunks made up by the train steward and retired to our separate bunks. After a few minutes Anna coaxed me back down off with top bunk with the promise of some 'special cuddles' (I know I know 'special cuddles' is a bit lame but I daren't go into any graphic detail because I am already in a shed load of trouble when she reads some of my previous blog entries! And let's be honest here folks I'm punching above my weight so don't want to push her too far)! So the special cuddles are enjoyable and just as the cuddles are getting very special disaster strikes..........the train stops at a station and our carriage window seems to be dead centre of the platform and we are not entirely convinced the curtains are fully closed! We lie still and are relieved to find the train moving again without any uproar but not so relieved to hear we are getting a French couple in the carriage next door! Now when we were first shown into the carriage if you remember me mentioning I thought that the doors on the right may have been a cupboard but worked out within about 2 seconds that it was dividing doors between carriages! Our new French neighbours are obviously not as intelligent as moi (to be expected as they are French after all) and don't quickly realise it's a locked dividing door, in fact the guy proceeds to start trying to force the door open! If he succeeds then he is going to be greeted with the sight of me and Annabelle sharing a special cuddle on the bottom bunk. This is going to be embarrassing for us all so I quickly leap up and start banging on our side of the door and in my best Del Boy Trotter French say 'excuse a moi someone in here!' This doesn't have the desired affect so I try a Scottish 'Ho there's f#cking someone in here!' which does have the desired effect and halts him in his tracks and gets us a sorry! Now this guy was obviously not the brightest so i'm not sure if he finally realised that the door opened into the neighbouring carriage or he just thought he had a grumpy jock locked in his cupboard who wanted to be left alone! Either way this cheese eating surrender monkey ruined the moment for special cuddles and I was promptly dispatched back to my top bunk! The train arrives into Bangkok at 7am and we grab a tuk-tuk to the bus station just in time to catch the next bus to Kanchanaburi. This bus takes about 4 hours and after another tuk-tuk we arrive at out new accommodation 24 hours after leaving our last one!
