We spent today on a tour of the surrounding areas of Kanchanaburi. I don't want to bore you (probably too late for that if you have read any earlier blog entries) but the area is noted for it's significance to the second world war as Japan built a railway from Kanchanaburi to Burma. This railway was used to transport supplies from Thailand to their front line in their Burma campaign. They used allied POW's to build the railway and because they were worked so hard a massive amount died during construction giving it the nickname 'Death Railway!' I think that's enough of a history lesson so first few sights we seen where bridge over river Kwai, hellfire pass and a trip on a train on the death railway! Now too the highlight of the day......natural hot springs! This place was amazing! There's a big pool of really really hot water which comes naturally from the ground (don't ask me how this works because it blew my mind also) and a very cold river running off the hill/mountain right next too it! So you jump into the cold river and cool down before jumping into the hot spring and it's ultra refreshing! Writing about it really doesn't do it justice as it was so good I was practically addicted and wanted to stay the rest of the day jumping back and forth from river to hot springs!!! The rest of the day pales in significance against this so I will spare you the details!
