Thai cooking lessons! We were picked up from our hotel by our instructor for the day a crazy Thai lady called Sugar! Between you and me readers I think she'd been smoking more herbs than she had been cooking with. Our first stop was the food market which was a big warehouse full of stalls with every type of food imaginable. At one stall an old lady was standing tearing the skin off frogs in one fell swoop! She was getting through about one every 10 seconds and it made a sound like a giant zip. Anna took one look then ran off looking like she was going to spew! I had visions of her barfing over someones stall but thankfully (or not cause it would have been hilarious) she managed to keep it together. After the market it was off to Sugars to start our lessons. First dish up was pad thai which is rice noodle dish. This was a disaster!!! After being showed how to do it first and made to look very easy we were quietly confident but both of us made all our noddles stick together in one big horrible ball of burnt sticky noodles! The instructors two helpers who couldn't speak English started rolling about the floor with laughter at our incompetence which didn't fill us full of confidence for the next two dishes! However we aced our next two dishes, chicken with cashew nuts and massaman curry, and managed to complete the course with some dignity in tack. The instructor Sugar owned a bar in town and invited us down for a drink at night.........bad idea! The bar was mobbed as there was a group of 20 or so people who taught English nearby who were in town for the night. By 10pm I was very very drunk having drunk over ten bottles of Chang beer (6.4% puts Stella to shame) and downed copious amounts of Hang Thong whiskey forced upon me by my new best friend a giant German guy also named Kris/Chris! When we left the bar (this is all according to Anna as I have very little recollection of the following events) Anna had to basically carry me down the road! She stopped to get some water from the 7/11 and left me sitting outside and when she returned I was lying on the floor being sick much to the delight of the locals and the 20 or so english teachers who just happened to be passing at this point! Anna then proceeded to help me the rest of the way down the road as I tried to hail none existent taxis until a local took pity on her and loaded us both onto the back of his motorbike and back to the hotel! Where I proceeded to be sick further then slept on the floor in the bathroom! Now those of you who know me know that I am a very sensible chap who very rarely gets himself into situations like this! So I am almost certain my dearest Annabelle is taking advantage of my lack of memory here and using it to fabricate a ludicrous story to make me sound bad - I'll leave you to make up your own minds!
