WOW, CHINA!!! How else can you put it!!
we travelled across hong kong, through the boarder to shengzen (a huge commercial city, one of china's most profitable. While waiting for our train we got constant stares which made us feel fairly uncomfortable. I guess blonde hair blue eyes was rare around there.) and boarded a night train to Guilin. This was our first train experience on the trip. It was quite comfortable as there were no cheap sleeper available, so we had comfy beds!! (oh well!!) 12.5 hrs later and we arrived in Guilin. The scenery is Fantastic!!! We quickly discovered why it's one of China's most Scenic area's!! Guilin is quite a large city so we decided to stay an hour outside at place called Yangshuo. We had a tour guide meet us at the bus station cause we were quite worried about the language barrier and such. He met us and got us a nice place to stay for a reasonsble price!!!
Well, if we didn't have our travel legs in Indonesia, They definitely arrived in China!! After 3 packed days in Hong kong, and an almost 36 hr journey from hong kong to Yangshuo, we got to touring in a hurry!! The next 3 days would see us bicycling up the yulong river, Rock climbing on of the most beautiful scenic valley's a person could ever ask for, visiting a 2 local villages and experiencing a chinese market that will make you gag, (skinned dogs.....yuk) took a bamboo raft up and down the might river, then (perhaps the perfect ending to a long day) we saw a show called Impressions.(also called the light show) It was directed by the guy who directed the opening ceremonies for the beijing olympics.( Also a ton of films, HERO, The red lanturn, crouching tiger hidden dragen...) It was unbelievable!!! 600 preformers and they seat you beside a river and he lights up the mountains and does some breathtaking coreography.
Honestly, We just can't begin to describe how amazing it is here. These limestone mountains are unreal. I find my self staring away in amazment! Brent and Kelsey, Mo keeps saying how you two would be flipping out and absolutely in Heaven.
That river cruise on the bamboo raft was just perfect!!!
The language barrier was nothing to worry about. everyone in the guest houses speaks english, and most venders can be easily communicated with. For dinner just point at what looks good on other tables!!!!!
we love it here and decided to venture a little further north before taking the train into vietnam. Next stop, KUNMING!!!
Hope all is well back home. Sorry we didn't call you on your b-day kelsey. We were thinking of you!!
Also, Our nephew tyler. he drew us a picture of us standing beside 2 boards and we posted a picture of it with us beside our real surf board. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
