so far our news year resolutions are going swell. I've done zero sit-ups and push-ups and i've only blogged once!!!! Sorry for that..... (i'm talking to my waist line)
anyways... were alive and well. After our Laos trip,(and a nasty stomach bug) we headed straight to Bangkok. AHHHHHHH, THAILAND!!!! Good to be back. Don't know exactly what it is, but monique and I both feel at home here. It was nice being back in Bangkok because we felt kinda normal for 6 days. We ate at great restaurants, went to a movie (avatar) at a nice big cinema, and yes we even visited a MALL!! (guess who's idea?!) ok ok, we didn't even browse around really, but plans are in the works for going back. ;-)
Bangkok was the stop over to get our myanmar visa's. So we submitted our paper work and waited. A friend from monique's play around the world trip is living in bangkok, so we got to meet up with him. So nice to eat dinner with a friend again. We were even lucky enough to attend a play day with him. They picked us up early in the morning and we drove out to the school, and spent a really fun day with the kids. It was a really great day.
After bangkok we flew into Yangoon, Myanmar. As soon as we walked around we noticed how friendly everyone is. Also, such large Indian and Chinese communities. Yangoon's Indian food is top notch!! Everything is so amazing here. In Bagan, we rented pedal bikes androamed around looking at the all the temples and Pagodas. Literally as far as the eye can see there is a temple. The sun sets were spectacular. The landscape is so flat and most temples have a stair case hidden somewhere. So there you are on top of a temple as your jaw hits the floor when the sun goes down!! such an amazing place. Unfortunately, i got another stomach bug. ( or maybe the same one?) After one day touring bagan, and one flat tire, I was in bed for the next 2 days with nurse monique at my side. She got to do a little bit more site seeing with the pedal bike, And did 2 sunsets by her self. (not so romantic, eh?)
Well Just as i was recovering we booked a bus to kalaw, and the night before we left, I started feeling a little worse. Lets just say it wasn't my favorite day. Cramped seats, winding mountain roads, dust billowing in the windows. Good thing for our i-pods (thanks Brodzy).
now were in Kalaw, and monique is off hiking today. I'm feeling better, but didn't think I should chance a 8 hour hike. Every day we learn something new about Myanmar. We really enjoy it here. But we can't help but look forward to our 2 week "holiday" with my parents in Thailand!! So excited.
miss you all.
lots of love
