Having left Lima we headed to Pisco which is famous for its white grape brandy drink ingeniously called Pisco. Apparently theres some dispute between Peru and Chile as to its origins but i've only heard the Peruvian side so couldn't tell you who is right. It doesn't taste particularly nice so we won't be trying it again.
Apart from a tour around a Pisco distillery the main reason most people stop here is for the Bellestos Islands. They are referred to as a poor mans Galapagos Islands, and seeing as we fit into the former we went there instead. Lots of Sea Lions, Pelicans and various other birds. Your advised to wear a hat or hood in case the birds get over excited and start craping on your heads, luckily (or is that unluckily?) neither of us were hit. The islands were quite impressive though and you got right up close to the Sea Lions, although the boat was rocking quite a bit so taking photos that weren't blurry was tricky.
From Pisco we headed on to Nasca. The flight over the famous lines (you have heard of them right?!) would be tomorrow so we went to the Peruvian version of the Sahara desert to go sand boarding, bomb about in a dune buggy and chill out at a pool located in an oasis. All the way there the landscape was almost lunar with just dust and rocks until suddenly these massive dunes appeared from no where. All of it was a great laugh and it gave us a chance to top up the tan before heading up into the mountains the next day where it would be getting colder.
