Hey everyone!
So this is my life.
We went and did death road in La Paz, it was really fun! Sally and Paul went on bikes and Kat the Cripple and me and my lack of ability to ride a bike went in the van hehe. They drove us up to the top, and everyone got to test out their bikes, then we got given all the cameras from our group and set off. It was actually a really pretty area and even better after a few hours when all the fog and rain had gone. The road didnt actually seem to bad, but the van was a bit of a tight squeeze to get down the road sometimes and with a vertical drop on the other side it was a bit scary!! We got shown places where people had fallen off though :-S At the end we had an amazing buffet lunch and then drove back up the road with everyone in the van
That night we got an amazing cama bus to Cochabama the seats went totally flat and almost backwards. We then parted ways at the bus station, Kat decided to stay in town hoping to rest her foot some more and get her cast off within the week to join us at volunteering and Paul decided to go to Rio for a week and then come to the volunteering after that. Me and Sally had breakfast and headed straight for the volunteering village, it was a bit daunting because we had to ask the bus driver to drop us off there and just trust that he would, we didnt really know what kinda village we were looking for and we just hoped he would remember to drop us off before reaching Santa Cruz! Luckily he did and all was well.
We soon found Parque Machia and Inti Wara Yassi our home for the next 3 weeks! We got greeted by volunteers and hung out in the cafe meeting everyone and got taken for a tour of the park and some of the animals. Later we got to meet the volunteer co ordinator and she gave us and the volunteers who had arrived that day jobs, we got to choose between us and Sally decided to go with the birds and I decided to go with the small animals, so i work with
17 adult coatimundi or tejones - http://www.pet-spot.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/coatimundi.jpg most are very sweet especially the girls and will sit on yuour lap and chuckle when yo stroke them, but some are really mean and will try to bite you if you go near them. But they all have names and places so you dont get mixed up!
1 adolescent tejon and 2 baby ones -. which are so sweet and clamber all over you!!!
2 tayras - http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CIiLvAAI5Vw/SS3tWs9v_0I/AAAAAAAAAK0/JwDitRL_r-I/S760/Irara-+Eira+Barbara.jpg which kinda look like giant weasels bears big cats.. very weird and fascinating to watch! They stay in their cage... they´re vicous
And loads of baby turtles and adult turtles.
So yeh most days the routine is the same get up and chop food, feed the animals, let them out their cages and tie them onto ropes with their leads so they can run around and go catch bugs to eat. Clean the cages, clean the turtle pond, feed again, then take them for walks (the tejones) so they can have a snuffle for more bugs, more feeding more cleaning. Îts really good fun even if I do describe it a bit dully.
So yeh thats life here really, Iñ´ve done a week and a half here and I´ve got the same again to go. The people here are all really nice, and we have meals and parties in the evenings and its all just really nice. Good to stay in one spot for a while too. Unfortunatley Kat still has her cast on so cant volunteer and the timing with Paul didnt work out so he cant come either, theyre gonna explore some more of bolivia and then were all gonna meet up and do the salt flats together and head down to buenos ares.
So yup thats me!!
