**sigh** yet another time, Ive written nearly a whole blog and then the computer has crashed on me, so forgive me if this blog is not as detailed as it would have been.....
HI di hi everyone!! Hello from yet another continent on my round the world trip!!
We've been in Singapore for a few days and fly to Bali tomorrow, but 1st I'll tel you about the rest of my adventures down under....
We arrived at townsville and got the ferry across to Magnetic Island, we stayed at the most amazing hostel there were the bar literally opened out onto the beach. We arrived in the afternoon so decided to have a chilled out afternoon and just lazed on the beach chatting to people we knew off the bus, that evening we met up with Kat and Paul and went to the fake tattoo/biker party they were having at our hostel.
The next day was a lazy morning on the beach waiting for our friend Anna (a fellow geographer from Nottingham who now studies in Townsville) to come join us. We then all went and did the Fortes walk on the island, where you get to see koalas in the wild!!! They're sooo sweet and lazy!!! That night we went to the "Olympics" they held at our bar, and we proudly represented England in games like musical chairs and giant jenga!
The next day we went snorkelling on the reef literally 10m off shore by our hostel, it was amazing how much you could see, and all the zebra fish kept following us! We went to the koala sanctuary that afternoon and got to hold all sorts of aniamls like turtles, birds, snakes, lizards, crocs but most importantly koalas! And they told us all about them too, we then went for a butterfly walk and caught butterflies.
The next day was our last ever Oz Experience bus! Which was very sad. We arrived at Cairns and all had a meal and night out together.
The next day we did the funniest tour I have ever done in my whole life....
Uncle Brians tour! We had the best driver ever, he played games with us, told us funny stories and fed us all day long, we went to visit the forest and waterfalls in the area - including the one where the herbal essences advert is filmed - so we had to get many hair flicking photos, and we got to swim behind and under the waterfall which I have always wanted to do!! It was amazing. We drove around all day in "Gus the Bus" who had his own personality and liked to do Uturns and honk a lot to talk to the driver, and we sang and danced all the way home - it may sound a little crazy but it really was amazing fun!!! We also went Platypus watching and actually saw one!! We were so lucky, they were so small and funny to watch. We also had a go at playing the didgerydoo - Its really hard!
The next day we went on a boat trip to the great barrier reef, we did some snorkelling and went for 2 dives, it was absolutely mind blowing, we swam with turtles and saw sharks and nemo fish, amazing coral and 1000s of different types of fish. I really want to learn to dive properly now. We had an underwater camera and thats the only real way I could describe to you how amazing it is, so i'll show all the pics when I get home!
That night we had a night out to say goodbye to some friends who were leaving we'd been travelling with since Fraser Island, and met up with my friend Adrian who's moved out to Oz from Bournemouth, yet another hilarious night out with random games and kareoke, - seems to be how the Aussies do it.
The next day (yes we had a very packed time in Cairns!) we went on a tour to Cape Tribulation, we went to a little zoo and got to see all the aussie animals one last time (including the cassowarry which I hadnt seen yet - a crazy large colourful bird!) we went and swam in some rivers, and went to the daintree river to go croc spotting in the wild. We then went through the rainforest and got to see some great veiws of Cape Trib and to wander along the beach there.
The next day we flew to Brisbane, and I explored the south bank there and the lagoon and city centre. That night I met up with Ben (another friend from home who's now moved out to Oz)
The next day we flew to Singapore and I watched 4 films back to back on the plane, and even had a menu to chose our food from, it was probably one of the best flights we had on this trip.
The next day in Singapore we got hit by humidity and real heat, which we haven't had for a while on this trip!!! We went and explored some oif the ethnic districts and went to China town, and ate and explored the temples and markets there, and then went to Little India and did the same there and had dinner - I love all the food out here!!!! We also went to see the famous Merlion (in the picture) and saw the harbourfront - where they have the worlds biggest wheel (london eye type thing) and a casino which is shaped like a boat on top of 3 skyscrapers - we're planning on going there tonight to see the skyline by night and try a Singapore Sling :-)
Yesterday we went to Sentosa Island, which is an island just off the mainland which has an amazingly Disneyland feel about it with monorails and trams to take you to various attractions on the island. We went to the underwater world there and saw dolphin and sea lion shows, and looked at the amazing aquarium they had there. The underwater tunnel was huge and even had a moving floor like at an airport to take you around it. That night we went to Songs of the sea, a music water and lights display, where they projected characters onto water fountains and we all sang along, it was really amazing, quite unlike anything I'd ever seen before.
Today is our last day here, and we're going to explore the city centre, go to the worlds largest fountain and just explore really, then it's off to Bali for a week!!
Only just over 2 weeks till I'm home now!! Eeeeeeep!!
