Hi di hi!
I literally just spent 30 mins writing my blog and this stupid com`puter just deleted it... so I´m gonna have to write the VERY brief version now. Blame Bolivia not me!
Hola from Bolivia!!!
So here´s my news (I thought I would squeeze in one last blog before we go volunteering, I don´t think I´ll be able to get online much while I´m there)
So we did our 2 day tour in Puno of the Uros floating islands and the other islands in Lake Titicaca on the Peru side. The floating islands were amazing, they´re islands made entirely out of straw which are just anchored into the ground by sticks! The houses and everything are made of straw, we all got to jump around on the island at once and its fine, doesn´t budge one bit! We got to learn about how the islands were made, how they trade with the main land etc.
We went to the main island and met with a local family who we stayed the night with, we helped them make dinner, and even though they spoke ketchuwa, and spanish for the tourists, our lack of spanish meant we spent most of the time just making hand gestures and laughing. it was good fun! In the evening we had a south american disco with panpipes and we all dressed up in tradtional skirts and shirts and the boys in ponchos and ran in circles around the room, it was hilarious but we had a good group so it made it even better
The next day we went to another island had a look around and had lunch, then rejoined Kat back on the main land
We had 2 days to kill in Puno so went souvenir shopping - more brightly coloured strippy trousers I cant resist! I finally got my south american allpaca jumper too :-D That evening we met and went out with people in our hostel which was nice.
The next day I decided since i had the time to get my legs waxed since it was cheap. Its very odd though, they dont use paper and just take the wax straight off you.... That evening we celebrated Queens Day, and in honour of the Dutch Queen we all wore orange and played games in the hostel (we´d bought material from the market earlier and made outfits!)
The next day we had our interesting journey to La Paz, wehad to go cross country due to the strikes still around the city and got stuck in ditches and piles of rocks, so we al had to get out so the bus could get out! We got there in the end though and though we struggled to find somewhere eventually found a hostel and crashed
The next day we went to the Plaza san francisco and the witches market. In the afternoon we went to see Cholita wrestling, it really was a unique experience and it was nothing but hilarous to see the local women wrestle each other, random men and midgets. Good fun though! That night we went to another hostel´s bar, and oddly enough I saw TomG, Strephon, Gaz & Alex from home, had no idea they were even in S.America same time as us! We had a night out with them which was nice.
Today went to see the other main plaza and the coca museum, which was actuaslly really interesting! We got our supplies ready for 3 weeks of living in the rainforest, natural mosquito repellant yay!!! We´ve just had an epic curry and are now getting ready to do DEATH ROAD tomorrow. Sally and Paul are biking it.. Me and Hop a long Kat are chosing to go in the van instead! Can´t wait!!!
If we survive we head to Cochabama tomorrow night and then onto Inti Wara Yassi and the monkeys and birds and big cats!!!!!!!!!
Sorry its so breif but I really couldn´t write all of that again!!!
Hope all is well
addios! xx
