Hola everybody!
Sorry its been a while since my last blog. Here´s what I´ve been up to.
So me and Sally had another week and a half at Inti Wara Yassi volunteering with all the animals. I loved it so much and I´m really sad to have left now. Some random things that happened in my last week and a half
Me and sally organised a leaving party for a few of our friends, we had a jungle themed party and charged everyone 3 gbp for all you can drink, we made quite a big profit even just from that which we gave to the park and everyone had a great night dressed up in leaves and mud. I had my day off the next day, and spent most of the day sleeping and online - it´s massively exhusting work there.
We had a bit of a drama one day, the monkeys always come at lunch time and steal the meat that we feed from the tyras. One day, we think a monkey actually came and opened the cage (caribeanas and all) and let out one of the tyras... when we came back to the area he was attacking and killed one of our tejones (Lollita - she was lovely, blind and always used to sleep on me) so since then we´ve put about 9 locks on the tyras cage, we can see that the monkeys have still been trying to get in, but can´t any more...
We got a few n ew animals to look after, a desert type fox, a snake and an anteater type thing, but we didn´t really have much to do to look after them.
We had lots of really nice evenings with everyone there, we got cooked an isreal dish (shakshuka?) which was really yummy, and went to the local bars which had swings at the bar!
On mine and Sallys last day we organised another party to say goodbye to everyone, we decided to have the theme as "clean and dandy" so that everyone could actually look nice for once. Again everyone had a really nice night and from the total of the 2 parties we raised over 1000 bolivianos (100 gbp) which we asked them to put towards doing up the hostel we had to stay in (because if im honest it was a dump with showers that barely worked and a kitchen that you REALLy didn´t want to use, and mosquito nets with holes in - but we survved!) and the rest to improve the small animals and birds.
The next day me and sally decided to walk the tourist trail through the park, which was all very nice we walked up to the mirador -view point and had a nice view of the village and the rivers and surroudning area. The walk down was slightly less pleasant though.... Suddenly the alpha male from the park was in the pathway - we´ve all heard so many bad stories about him biting people and being really vicious so we were really scared... he was bearing his teeth and screaming at us, it was horrible. I threw my water bottle at him, scared that maybe what he wanted, and sally was petrified he was gonna take her camera and journal (after already having her volunteering journal being taken once by the monkies) suddenly all the rest of the cappuchins from the whole park came up to us as well all bearing their teeth. Then the alpha male jumped on sallys head and she threw him off and another cappuchin jumped on me and bite my arm twice before I could throw him off, then I just yelled run and we ran all the way back to the bottom of the hill screaming Fuera!! (go away in spanish) I think all the volunteering in the whole park could hear us screaming, and apparently we even scared the bear that tyhey have there and he hid in a bush. Everyone thought we were all being killed by monkeys we were so loud.... oh dear... Anyways the vets cleaned us both up, got some plasters and butterfly stitches and eventually we both managed to calm down!
We packed our bags and said goodbye to everyone and all the animals it was very sad :-( then we got the bus back to cochabamba, well I say bus, it was a minivan full of local people, and a crazy local man who smelt and would not stop poking sally and speaking spanish to her despite us constantly saying no entiendo!!! (I dont understand!!!) he was mental though and everyone in the car was glad when he got off.
We then got a bus to Potosi and then to Uyuni and met up with Paul and Kat which was really nice. We went for MinuteMan pizza which is the best pizza in all of south america - it was sooo good to have cheddar cheese!!!!
The next day we started our 3 day tour of the salt flats.
