A VERY happy Muddy Pony that's what!
Oh my days, I have never tasted such an amazing burger or had an ice cream that big before, with the woman apologising to me because it was, I quote, "a bit small" *ahem*
We flew back to Auckland today so decided we would just hang around Queenstown for bit and see what was on offer. Well, quite a bit apparently!
First of all we went up one of the Mountains to the Luge track and had a few attempts at that - as you can imagine it all got rather serious, with people testing brakes, overtaking rules, and starting line ups, but hey, who's keeping track, really?... It was very good fun, although as is standard for me, I had to have the Extra Big Hat - because my head is bloody huge!!
I think we all thought we should have bought more rides on it as we only got 3 each and after the first time you definitely want to go down again but, nevertheless, we all enjoyed it and the setting was just fantastic - beautifully clear skies, up a mountain, over a lake with Paragliding happening all around and a looping and winding track.
After that we went to a famous burger place called Fergburgers and hand the biggest burgers I have ever seen. However, not only were they big they were gorgeous. I had a Tropical Swine, which is basically burger, pineapple, lettuce, tomato, relish etc. I don't even know what else to say it was just gorgeous - anyone going to Queenstown - I truly recommend the place.
You would think that we would have been full up by now, but no, no, no, no. Next stop Patagonia Ice Cream. Now and important thing to remember is that, all the portion sizes in NZ are nearly twice the size of those in the UK and ice cream serving is apparently no different. I saw the others, getting theirs and asked the lady for a small version of what they had. After apologising for giving me a small one after she made it, I laughed and told her that it was really ok! Outside the shop we couldn't believe it and laughed over the fact that my ice cream was bigger than my enormous head, and laughed at Michelle, who, although having an ice cream that would have dwarfed that of one in the UK, had gotten served by a moody lady who gave her a 'girls' portion in relation to ours - the boys' in particular.
Feeling thoroughly full and now a little sick, we left to explore the town, stopping in at an art gallery to see some amazing layered paintings that appeared to be almost 3D under good lighting, and generally being tourists looking in shops. It was then that Michelle and I saw the Welsh man that we had seen in the Blue Ice Café having a pizza a couple of nights ago - how bizarre…
No time to stop we got straight back into the car and back to the airport. I am thankful to say that the flight back was a walk in the park compared to the journey down, and even when we got back to Auckland we managed to get a shuttle bus to take us home for the bargain price of $50. Even more of a bargain when we saw one lady getting dropped off just before us give the driver $50 just for her. It was at this point I said to Chris, "you did check it was $50 for all of us and not each right??" Cue a worrying 5 minutes home and then relief as we did indeed only give him $50.
Too tired to think straight now and in no mood to check that this even makes any sense to anyone but me.
Goodnight all.
