Feeling a little delicate, we got up early to start the day at Select for breakfast. On the agenda for today was a visit to a well, where natural waters bubbled up to the surface. It was located about two miles out of town, so Laszlo drove us over so that we could have our first taste of Romanian spring water. And what a taste it was! We could easily have mistaken ourselves for being next to a petrol station - the water smelt exactly like petrol and didn't taste much better. It also had a strange, ferrous aftertaste. I couldn't quite understand why the local folk were queuing up to harvest this water!
Next to the well was a damp, long grassed field where many a snail was to be found. We saw a couple of people collecting the snails to munch on. Yum! Close by was a sorry-looking stray dog, which had adopted a distinctive dreadlock hairstyle.
Heavy rain forced us back to the car. Laszlo drove us into town, to the AGORA office. AGORA is a conservation organisation which focuses on the Secuiesc region of Transylvania. Their aim is to promote environmental conservation through community projects and education while encouraging sustainable development. This was the theme that ran through the powerpoint presentation that Laszlo gave, which provided a valuable insight into the kinds of activities we'll be doing.
After that we went for a late lunch and then headed for the nearest bar. There we engaged ourselves in a three hour chess game while Laszlo and his friend watched on. It was a tense match! This was followed by a a classical guitar concert in the Town Hall for the evening. Kate and I unwittingly spoke to the star of the show, when we interrupted his rehearsing by asking for directions to the concert! Whoops. It was a very enjoyable event which revealed interesting Romanian clapping styles to encourage another encore. Over and over again the audience clapped in rhythm for an encore. The poor classical guitarist reappeared on stage about ten times!
