Roma! Home to the Colosseum, Steps, Fountains and the Capital of the Church. I'm in love with Rome!
The city is rich with history with many tourist sites stamped BC! Exploring the ruins, walking along the tree lined river (away from the tourists), enjoying Appertivo overlooking the Colosseum - whats not to love.
While its officially about to tick over to off season over hear in Europe, many of the touristy destinations are still full of tourists. Lines are 30 minutes instead of a couple of hours - yes the weather is cold but you dress to battle the elements....well usually.
On my first day in Rome I had the day to explore by myself prior to the tour catching back up with me. I took off early to explore the Vatican Museum and St Peters Basilica. AMAZING - walking into the Basilica was breathtaking! I am still at a loss for words on how to describe the experience.
As I made my way towards Roma I walked along the gorgeous river esplanade, lined with trees and palaces. A stop in at the Piazza xxx, the Parthenon, the Monument of Emmanuel and a sunset stroll pass the Colosseum after Apertivo on the roof of the Emmanuel Monument was a PERFECT day in Rome. The group arrived late that night exhausted - after a couple of catchup drinks and introductions with the 7 newbies joining in Rome, it was off to bed for another long walking day the next day.
It was early to breaky - yes I never thought I would say this but I am almost over Chocolate Croissants, it was off to the Colosseum where Andrew, Kate, Steve, Elise and I opted for a guided tour of the Colosseum. From then Colosseum it was off to the Pallentine and the Roman Forum before an afternoon of Gelato, Espresso's, Appertivo, Chianti, Bruschetta, Pasta and Lemoncello - when in Rome :)
