The overnight train from Bangkok to Noh Sok National Park...OH MY GOSH! We are learning the transportion around Bangkok. From our hostel we took the sky train and the subway beforw reaching the train station. All of which was so nice, a/c super fast and exceptionally clean and efficient. Then comes the train that is 100 years old. Janell and I got top bunks for the nights journey, no biggie we think. Then the guy comes by to make our beds, no longer do we get a seat - they have all been transformed to beds. So we are forced to sit up on our bunks which are as narrow as we are wide, not too worry there are straps to keep us from rolling out. There is a shower which we make use of as our lives flash before our eyes, each stop (and there are at least 20 for the 12 hour trip) sends all cars crashing into the next before the train comes to the hault, if you are not holding onto something you will go crashing forward as each jarring movement sends you flying. It does not get any better as the t rain starts up agin cause now you have to go through the whole process of each cars snapping apart and then the train moving again and a rather slow pace and then haulting again after another 20 minutes at the next stop. Did we sleep? Do you need to ask?
Then comes the process of catching another bus to that national forest...finally we reach our destination and just as every destination previously there are hoards of guesthouse oweners hounding you to stay at there place. We choose to go to the Smilay bungalow. Very cute with a great view of the forest and hammocks. First thing we did was get a guide and some inner tubes down the river. So beautiful and amazingly peaceful as we glide thru forest and along soaring cliffs. Lazily I dangle my hands over the tub and a fish comes up and bites hard on my pinky...tons of fish are sworming below me. The trip last about 2 hours, we saw tons of snakes sleeping in the trees and a frog that plays dead (more on that when I see ya all)
That night we found a scorpion in our bathroom when Janell comes to shower, we spend 10 minutes trying to drown it with the spray from the shower head, the sucker takes forever to die, we end up crushing it with the leg of a chair...we slept with the bug net tucked tightly into the bed.
The next morning we start our 6 mile hike into the rain forest with a couple we met from brazil...about 4 hours into the trip we stop at a swim hole...upon taking off our shoes the others all find leeches attched to their ankles and feet, everybody is freaking out and trying to pull them off, there is blood everywhere, it looks like a crime scene. Amazingly I have none, we realize that the "worms" I kept flicking and pulling off my shoes had been leeches going for its prey...oh SO gross. I don;t think you have ever seen people walk so fast out of a jungle stopping ever 10 minutes to re check...Vinny got two more and I flicked off another 2 the trip home...on top of that we got caught in a major storm. we got back to our bunglows soaking wet and super bloody...it was like a scene from a horror flick...too funny!
We are now in Krabi...janell in getting her dive cert and I am getting re-certified...tomorrow will be our first dive...we are promised to see sea horses and sharks along with many other sea creatures. I can not wait.
Good night everyone...love you all!
