Hi everyone....i have been in siem reap cambodia for two days now...it is so dusty here. we took what we though was a threee hour us ride from bangkok across the border to cambodia...but no it took us 12 hours...4 hours just to get to the border and then time spent walking across the border in squelching heat....the rest of the time was spent crammed onto a bus that shold of only held 20 people in it...we had at least 25 no ac and a dirt road for 5 hours...it was like riding on a wash board...theraod is this amzing red dirt but all teh motobikes and trucks driving the raod make the air and all the plants and trees that color too. janell and i tied shirts across our faces just so we could breath...it never felt as if we could get a full breath...all in all it was a really fun ride actually with tons to look at..huts made of bamboo and palms build up on stilts...an entire family including baby just a few months old all riding on a moto bike sometimes up to 5 family members....absoultely crazy...some babies ride in a little book basket on the front of the bike...it is a wonder the baby doesn't bounce out....we were bouncing out of our seats...at one point the bus was riding on three wheels...the driver did not see the little hill in the raod at night....since we have been here we havegone to look at the war museum...vietmam tanks, guns, land mines, uniforms with blood stains...we got to go inside one of the rusted tanks and hold all the guns...huge guns...we have pictures of us in the jungle sooting the guns...we went to the killing fields where thousands were killed during the khmer rouge war....lots of stories when I get back...visited a cambodian school took supplies and we were asked to teach english to the children so we spent a couple hours talking with them and playing with them....it was very cute andthey asked us all sorts of things...they were reall interested in the whole marraige process and if we had boyfriends...aparently is is bad luck to marry a boy of teh same age andbefore they get married they see a fortune teller...if she says no then they can not get married...some end up with broken hearts while those that end up getting married anyways end up with bad luck.... our days have been so full they start early and end late...we are seeing so much and really half enguled ourselves in the culture here...it has been so mcuh fun...
today we woke up at 5am andhopped on the motobikes....we have little drivers that take us everywhere....we watchedthe sun come up over the angkor temple....look it up absolutel yamzing....dates back to 800 ad
we spent all day there lookind at all the temples...some poeple ride elephants through the grounds....it is so beautiful...look it up on the internet..i just walked thru the grounds in awe no words can descibe it.
we are staying at a little guest house that comes with a dirty bottom sheet and you have to pour water into the toilet to flush it... the shower hangs over the toilet and it is just one big room...have to go now time is up
