Stefanie's Travel Journal
Sunday I decided to take it easy a bit. I wanted to make some reservations for future activities this week and also since I'm fighting off a little cold (I'm still winning) I thought I'd enjoy the afternoon laying by the pool reading my new book about an English banker who became a Thai Buddhist monk.
But I had to visit the Chatuchak Weekend Market. It is unbelievably big. It basically has all the same things that the Suan Lum Market had but even more. I went just to see it and thought I'd just have lunch but I found some ceramics I really liked and couldn't leave without buying. My lunch was another great deal - the best cashew chicken I've ever had for about $1.25 and then chocolate donuts on a stick (.25) for a snack (really yummy - chocolate donuts with peanuts inside and no frosting). I really don't understand how they can make any profit on the food here. It almost seems not worth the effort to cook the food for $1. But I guess you don't need to make a lot of profit on each order when you can go home and feed your entire family with a couple dollars. Still the economics astound me.
I used the sky train to get to the market and I continue to be impressed with it. I'm a huge fan. And I got to see a lot of the city because the market is at the north end of the city. Very interesting. Same impression as yesterday's journal. Interesting to visit but I don't have a desire to live here.
The afternoon was relaxing. Reservations. Pool. Reading. Workout. Journal Writing =)
I better get some sleep so I can keep winning this war against this cold (dont worry mom, I'm pretty sure its not dengue fever or the bird flu - regular everyday cold/sore throat).
