Stefanie's Travel Journal
Monday I took an interesting tour north of Bangkok to the ruined city of Ayuthaya. Ayuthaya was the capital of Thailand/Siam from 1350 to 1767 when it was sacked by the Burmese army. (Thailand is very proud to be the only Southeast Asia country never to have been colonized by a western nation. Almost all of its struggles for independence have been with neighboring states, usually Burma).
The city of Ayuthaya was huge so it would be difficult to see all the ruins. We saw three key sites and some classic architecture. Then we had a cruise down the river back to Bangkok. Thailand uses its rivers as working rivers so the cruise back was interesting.
Unfortunately my cold was winning a little on Monday so I was a little subdued on the tour. I found it very interesting but I was very happy to get back to my hotel and climb right in bed.
