Stefanie's Travel Journal
I've arrived in Kathmandu! I got to my hotel about 32 hours after I left my apartment in Sacramento. Four flights and a lot of miles and peanuts and airport security checks behind me, I was happy to be here.
The weather is nice. Warm but not too hot. Billowy white clouds against blue skies (we're at the last two weeks of the official rainy season so we can expect a little rain each day).
My hotel is nice. Very basic but it has a phone and TV in the room, running water and electricity, and a restaurant and cyber cafe in the lobby. And the location is convenient, right in Thamel, the touirist district.
English is widely spoken here and although tourism is a huge trade and there is some hawking the streets are cleaner and quieter and nice to walk along and shop. More like Ubud. Kathmandu has a reputation for being polluted but coming from Bangkok and also at the end of the rainy season, I think it seems fine.
Well, off to do a little more walking around before I need to head back to my hotel and meet my tour group tonight. I heard that its me and about 10 Australians - fun!
I'll write more about the group and the tour tomorrow after I find out more tonight. And I'm still figuring out how to get my pictures onto these computers so it may take a few days for that. Nothing but me in airports so far anyway.
More tomorrow ....
