Awoke to a stunner of a day in London (albeit with a slightly sore head from the previous night!) and set off for the London Eye. The Eye itself sits right on the river Thames, diagonally opposite to Big Ben and Westminster. The 20 minute ride in this enormous ferris wheel offers amazing views over the city, from Big Ben to St Paul’s Cathedral, the Gherkin (a famous building that looks like, you guessed it, a gherkin) and Buckingham Palace. Even at 9.30 am the crowds were hefty and it carries on much like this (in summer at least) until 9.30 pm
From here we made our way across the river to admire Big Ben and get some great photos with the sun shining its golden beams onto the face. Big Ben is of course the nickname for the clock tower that sits at one end of Westminster, where the houses of parliament meet. It’s a poignant time for British politics, as Gordon Brown is out and David Cameron and his coalition with Nick Clegg are in.
Sadly Gordon Brown wasn’t the only one we were saying goodbye to, it was time to say our goodbyes to the Edge crew! They’re lucky enough to be heading to Greece while the others are staying on in London to keep exploring.
Time for a big thank you to STA Travel, Visit Britain, Emirates, Spaceships, our hotels for having us, our guides in various cities for their vast knowledge and to Weatherspoons who more often than not fed us on the cheap! It was an amazing trip that none of us will forget!
