Time flies when you're in Manila…
Like all true bloggers I have fallen behind on my blog updates. So this is a catch up of my adventures this week.
MONDAY- After a mammoth Sunday at the Black Nazarene Procession I got the day off work. I pretty much work a day and then get one off it's better than being a council worker!
After a well-deserved sleep in I met up with three of the ladies from work for an all you can eat Merienda buffet (my favourite meal) at 'Dads', a traditional Philippine restaurant that serves a mind-boggling array of Filipino dishes. I tried a bunch of weird and wonderful things, all delicious!
TUESDAY- I headed to the Philippine Senate where I got to witness a hearing about qualified nurses being forced to work as interns/work experience at hospitals without a salary and in some cases were forced to pay fees for their own certification and training.
The hearing itself was fairly boring but the writing of the story and the media scrum to interview the senator who was just released from prison after seven years behind bars on coup d'etat charges (God I love Philippine politics!) was the real fun part.
The story I contributed to made pg11 in the Philippine Daily Inquirer the next day. J
WEDNESDAY- Today was my RDO for sight seeing and shopping! I started off at the Ayala Museum in Makati just 10 minutes walk up the road.
My favourite part of the museum was the Diorama Experience on the second floor. It is a walk through exhibition that gives an overview of Philippine history from prehistoric times, to the recognition of Philippine independence by the United States, to the amazing People Power movement in the late 80s.
It really showed the tough history that has shaped what the country is today.
So there is the last three days wrapped up nicely in 300 words.
From Manila lots of love,
Stace
