It's been forever since my last post so I'll try and make this worth the read, though I've probably forgotten some of the stuff that's happened in the last 11 days! Work wise we now know what we're doing and we've decided to work with a charity foundation called CONIN, and also prepare lessons and teach English in a private institution. CONIN is a childrens charity that provides medical help and rehabilitation classes/workshops to malnourished kids and their parents. They have two buildings one of which is a hospital where they help the severely malnourished children get better and the other is similar to a school building where they provide workshops and activities for the kids and lessons for the mothers on how to provide for their children. Due to our overwhelming experience in the medical profession (or anything even mildly science like) we'll be giving the hospital a wide berth and be working in the second building entertaining the children. We haven't been yet but we're fairly confident (and it's only fairly because it takes forever for anything to get done in this country, we haven't had an oven for 3 weeks and the guy still hasn't turned up to fix it!!) that we'll start next week. The work at the English centre starts next month and it's fairly straightforward. We've been asked to create a presentation on Britain (or a subject of our choice) and present it in a lesson and then help out as assistants speaking English one on one with the students, most of whom will be either our age or older and fairly proficient speakers.
On the social side of things last week was incredibly busy! On St. Patricks day we ran into some of the rugby lads near our house and went to the Irish bar (which has nothing Irish about it except the name and some random bits of Gaelic on the door) and on the Friday we were invited out after training. We were forced to try the Argentinean national drink called 'Fernet' which Ben hated but I got used to after a while. Then we went to the major club of the city called 'Al Sur' where Ben got in but I didn't because of the law here of not being able to enter a nightclub after 2.30am and we got there just too late. However, we are planning to get there earlier tonight and have another crack at it.
We decided to get some culture in our lives this week as well and, as you may have seen on the facebook pictures, we went on a trip called 'Puerta del Inca' which was basically a 7 hour historical tour guide of the Andes and our surrounding area. Some of the scenery was absolutely incredible and the trip culminated in a little town dominated by this enormous natural bridge that was used by the Incas. It was all really interesting stuff and it felt good to go and see some of the natural features of the country we're living it. Plus the Andes are slightly more impressive that Castle Hill.... though it's close.
Finally, yesterday was our first actual rugby game for our new team. It was in the middle of the day (as it's another Thursday Friday bank holiday here which they seem to have every week) and thus incredibly hot. We got to play on the first team pitch which is enormous and I won't bore you with a match report but suffice to say we won. We don't have any plans for today until we go out tonight and it'll probably be a quiet weekend as well. Next week is (probably) the first full working day we'll do so looking forward/a bit nervous about that!
