Hiya, it's Caroline here,
Yipeee we are in Jaisalmer after a long hot journey by bus from Jodhpur. Hang on, let me back track for a minute...
We left Pushkar about a week ago or something, I tell you when you're away from the 'real world', you lose all track of time & dates & hmmm I'm a bit confused with it all but what's new?! Soooo, we left Pushkar & went to Udaipur, which is deemed by locals & the Guide book as 'The Venice of the East', not really sure about that one but hey it was pretty! Stayed in a beautiful hostel run by a lovely family with rooftop views of the Lake Pichola/Lake Palace Hotel & we visited the City Palace. Only three things we wanted to see there so left after a few days & hopped off by bus again to Jodhpur. Very nice little place with the Meherangarh Fort right on our doorstep, Umaid Bhawan Palace, a white buliding in memory of someone - I've forgotten who & a clocktower & that's about it. Worth a look though because the place has a friendly vibe & great people. Now rahhhh we are in Jaisalmer yey, yey, yey, why so happy? because we have booked to go on a Camel Safari starting tomorrow for two days & a night. Finally we are doing something more than just seeing a buliding however lovely it may be!! We have a guide and other westerners will be on safari too, not seen many westerners for a couple of weeks, however since Pushkar there has been an explosion of them which is nice at times as you can have a good chat. Met many Israeli's who are extremely friendly!! Unfortunately one poor Israeli traveller was robbed & murdered recently in Mt. Abu as he went hiking on his own, something which you are advised NOT TO DO!! We weren't planning on going there & we will definately not hike/trekk on our own. Very sad!!!!
Jaisalmer is hottttttt!!! The Fort here is stunningly impressive however I'm not sure you can go inside very much, but we have walked around the lanes inside & it's golden glow is alluring.
I am sick of eating curry, & curry related foods, had a chicken enchilada the other day which was a nice change & very tasty. Bless alot of the guys & gals here for trying but alot of the time they offer pizza/pasta etc & for the majority it either tastes of curry anyway or just not what it is supposed to taste of, I'm not being fussy either it's just that curry after two many weeks of shovelling them down reacts with a rather manky bloated gut, double chin etc etc... There aren't many hostels with a self-catering facility nor are there many shops/markets about where you can buy bread & cheese or what have you, so mainly eating restaurant food all the time... Poor Matt suffered a bit & pebble-dashed the toilet wall which was a bit gross & I expect he will elaborate at some point - all better now though I'm happy to report! I am of the other way where I cannot seem to go - blurghhh... apologies for the specifics. Talking of poop, Matt got splatted on by a pigeon yesterday for the second time since we've been in India - lol lol!!
I think there is a strange ghost of a goat wandering the hill tops sitting on an old bag pipe, hehe how rude of me when in fact it is the sound of the prayers or something radiating from the speakers everyday & night in the country. The voices are lovely(ish), when you can hear clearly but when they are distorted it is an eerie weird sound like those scary things that carry the baddies off in the film Ghost.
Our brains have just melted in the heat I'm sure because we have amazing adventures to tell but babble on randomly instead & trying to hold a conversation with one another is painful at times as we forget what we mean to say halfway through a sentence - it's funny though!
Right, dinner time now & early to bed as leaving for a our Camels bright & early.
p.s - The Milky bar kids are still in town... still got no ruddy tan yet.
Will report soon on our Camel adventure's - apparently they fart alot aswell as spit so that should be wonderful....
Love to you as usual & will write soon and add some picci's. Over & out Indianna... xx
