Ben, Ellis & Ollie were given the day off school, to come with us to Jervis Bay. Took about an hour to drive to Husskison, mostly in drizzly rain, until about 5 minutes before we got to town, when it started to pour down! Parked at he sea front, and went for a coffee. Café owner very helpful & informative about options for activities if the weather didn't clear up.
Wandered around town for 10 mins, then down to the beach - and suddenly there were dolphins in the sea! Kids got very excited, and we watched a couple of pods of dolphins swim & jump, just offshore, for about a quarter of an hour - tried to take photos, but they just wouldn't stay still, or pose!
Rain eased off, so drove a little way further to a BBQ site just by the beach, to cook sausages (& eat Kate's marvelous Coronation chicken!), explore the beach, and paddle in the sea. Saw more dolphins swim by (still no decent photos!)
The Blackburn boys (and eventually Matilda!) put on wet suits, and played with the skim- and body-boards. Even J&D went for a paddle (water wasn't warm!).
On way out of town, stopped at a kids play ground with a fantastic rope climbing frame - wasn't too long before both large AND small "kids" were having fun climbing up high!
Then home for D to cook bean stew & pancakes.
