Vichelle arrived just after 9, following a veg omelet, baguette & coffee (or coco pops!) breakfast. Long tuk-tuk ride to Banteay Srei, stopping at …….? temple along the way.
BS is the most "developed" site so far, with a large car park, restaurant, loos, information displays and a market. Small site (partially flooded) but exquisite detail in the carvings - just beautiful!
Paused at restaurant for cooling drinks, and for kids to buy souvenirs and postcards.
Then on to the Cambodia Landmine Museum (google it!). Surprisingly, one of the best, and certainly the most inspirational, palace that we've visited so far. Attached ourselves to a very informative tour being given by an American chap who volunteers there, explaining Aki-Ra's history (childhood KR soldier turned de-miner), & the current work of the museum and charity, both in the local community and in their continuing quest to clear the countryside of munitions & return farming families to their land.
Then on to Angkor Butterfly Centre, to see all sorts of Cambodian butterflies, and learn about the different stages of their life-cycles. The Centre supports local families, & teaches them how to breed butterflies for sale, aiding them towards creating a self sufficient income.
Back to guest house for final meal and to pack. Then walked to Lucky Supermarket for tomorrows supplies (fruit, apple juice, Ritz biscuits & Oreos!)
Pick up arranged for 7.15-30, for 8 am bus, so got an early night, ready for a long day's travel tomorrow.
