Baguettes and hot chocolate for breakfast again! Lee arrived at 9am - first stop: bus station to book ticket to Siem Reap. $12 each - more expensive than expected, as it's the beginning of a festival weekend, and people are traveling to visit relatives in their homelands.
Then to the Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda. Beautiful yellow and gold buildings with intricate ceiling paintings & wall stenciling. Well tended gardens surrounding all the buildings. Slowly walked around, taking it all in, until a guard told us that it closed at 11am, and that we only had 15 minutes left to look around the Silver Pagoda! (L. seriously not impressed by the cost to time ratio!) Wandered around until about quarter past, then onto the National Museum - hundreds of statues of Shiva, et al. Interesting animated reconstruction of "Life at Angkor", many linga and yoni!
Then to Wat Phnom, for a quick climb up the hill to the temple, then walked around the base of the hill. D got very excited when he found a $100 bill! L pointed out that it didn't look "green enough", and on closer inspection, there was no watermark, or security strip.
Kids requested time to play at nearby play area, then back to the "local" restaurant for more good, cheap, Khmer food. M started to fade during the meal, so decided to call it a day, & Lee took us back to the hotel.
M & L snoozed, while D & J went downstairs to play Dr Who game and battleships for an hour, then girls came down, and the kids did their homework. A quick drink, then up to bed.
