Set alarm for 7am, dressed & downstairs for hot chocolate and baguette for breakfast. Lee arrived at 8 to take us out for the day. ~1 hour Tuk-tuk ride, initially through INSANE central Phnom Penh traffic to the Phnomn Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, where we saw lots of forest birds, monkeys, lions, tigers, bears, elephants, leopards, snakes and a civet. Lots of beggars on the road to the centre.
Then back in the Tuk-tuk for the ride to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek: a disturbing and poignant memorial to the atrocities of the KR era. Had a big impact on all of us - very difficult to put into words.
Brief respite with a cold can of coke / fanta, then to the Tuol Sleng Museum - a school turned into Security Prison 21. Again: harrowing and massively thought provoking.
Then to "proper" Cambodian restaurant for good quality, good value meal (J: fish soup with lemongrass; D: ginger chicken; L: yellow fried noodles; M; fried rice) only 6000r (£1) per dish - much better value than the 14000r we paid last night at he hotel!
Back to hotel for shower & chill out for an hour, then downstairs for the kids to do their homework (and adults to have a much needed beer!)
L&M up to bed by 9, J&D by 9.30. An early night for all.
