So i ended up moving rooms the second day i was here. I moved into a different section of the house, living with Phoebe, a girl from New Zealand. Oddly enough we have the same birthday. Anyway, she left today for the Amazon so for now i have a room to myself.
I have explored the town a lot. I like to wander after my Spanish classes. I just let Jesus guide me. NO REALLY, there is a big white Jesus up on the hill and since the center of town is low and the sides quickly climb into the surrounding hills, you can see Him from everywhere and get your barings based on where you are in relationship to the statue.
Melanie, a girl who also lives in the house, and i went wandering yesterday and ran into this awesome celebration of some kind. There were about 30 men carrying this statue around the plaza outside their church. We think it is something leading up to Carnaval but are not positive. There was a whole community outside of their church (very Catholic country... 11 churces in this city alone, there is one every time you turn a corner.) There was two bands and tons of people. They were eating and drinking.. there were balloons in the trees, and of course people selling all kinds of things. So apparently the thing to do here around Carnaval is to throw water balloons and confetti at people as well as spray foam. It gets more and more interesting the closer we get to Carnaval. It's a very cool culture.
We're going off exploring some ruins this weekend and then of course finding somewhere to watch SuperBowl on Sunday.
