Since our credit cards need an SMS code to purchase on the internet, we were forced to take a taxi to the Cruz del Sur bus terminal to purchase them. So we did that in the morning, and then took another taxi into the city centre. I can appreciate why many backpackers dislike Lima; it is a massive city with very little public transport options, and very little in the way of tourism. Regardless, we enjoyed ourselves.
First stop was lunch at Tanta - paella for Jeremy and veggie sandwich with 'fried yellow potatoes' for me. After a wander around and a visit to Starbucks to steal internet/frappuccinos, we visited the San Francisco Basilica. Our 10 sole entry included a (very) brief tour of the cathedral and its catacombs. Something like 28,000 bodies were recovered from underneath the church. AND the library has 25,000 books too, but they were all hidden in the library out of sight.
Our adventure in Lima ended at the supermarket and a final visit to the Plaza de Armas before we caught a cab back to the condo and made dinner for Pat and Irene.
