Kate and Calvin had a romantic adventure to The Rift Valley (sounds prehistoric!) today to explore Hell's Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha. Today a group of us (5 volunteers) visited the Kibera slum – the third biggest slum in the world. We were fortunate enough to arrange for a local, Benson, to show us around. We caught the bus into the city and then the matatu (with Benson) to the slum. The matatu was an experience – basically a night club in a bus during the day! Music blaring and music clips being shown on a few different TVs in the van! It had rained a lot over night and it poured...

It was the last day of school for the year for the kids at Safisha Africa School which made the day full of mixed emotions.  We all arrived at the school in the morning at 9 am and all the kids were in the one room. It was quite quiet until we said our "Good morning" routine one last time. There were no classes - it was going to be all fun and games today - and we can't forget the dancing...! We gave the kids a hula hoop as a gift which they really liked. So...

Most of the exams were over so it was a nice, chilled out day with the kids. It poured with rain last night so their 'play area' was flooded out. Luckily the kids are so good at entertaining themselves no matter the circumstances. Kate read a number of the kids a book which they loved – they were so engaged by it! Later on, one of the kids, Peter, read a book 1:1 to Kate – he absolutely loved this opportunity. Kate asked him if he reads books at home ...

There was still no power this morning so it was cold showers all around! Got a lift into school this morning for day 2 of exams. Some of the interesting questions today: 1.
