This morning we went to Whispers Café, a more Western café, for morning tea / lunch – another smoothie each. A bit more expensive but very delicious. The owner said he is really struggling given the demise of tourism. We were the only customers there. We got a little lost today in the maze of Lamu while trying to find the marketplace. Streets, lanes and alleys are nameless and look the same. This morning we walked to Shela beach – the more upmarket part of Lamu where apparently lots of expats live. It took us about 45 mins to walk there but it felt like longer as it was so hot and humid with limited shade. A swim in the beautiful ocean was a perfect reward for our walk! Batu cooked us a delicious farewell Turkish breakfast - menemen - comprising of eggs, skinned tomatoes, chilli and salt scrambled together and served with toast.
