Hello again!
Well this weekend has been very eventful and great fun. After I left school on Friday (where I got my uniform!!) I met Kim and Philippa at the Gurka Museum which was really informative and kinda sad in a way to read bout everything that went off. There were some truely amazing pictures inside as well. We left there and it was pouring with rain and we went across to a little place to have a drink and a piece of cake - which was very yummy and my Nepali came in handy as I could tell them so as well - and Kim asked how much it was - we are learning really well!!
We walked across to see the Seti Gorge in the rain which was really impressive if not somewhat scary as the bridge was really slippy and there were some steps leading down into the gorge which were frightfully steep and had just a tiny piece of rope stopping people climbing down. There was tunnel which was covered over the top in cobwebs and it was so cold to stand in front of and the water was an odd colour, not blue or murky or even white as water sometimes seems to be, but a mixture of all of these things, and it seemed to have a life of its own with its own intentions and path as it swirled around. There truely seemed to be no bottom to the water too, and the tunnel it was coming from was so dark inside, it seemed to appear from nowhere and disappear into nowhere too - although I know that is impossible. The gorge itself was really far beneath us, and although you could see the water rushing between the hills it was the sound that made us aware it was there. As the rain was falling heavier by the second it seemed to go down for ever before it hit the water below, it was an odd feeling having the rain come from so high above and not seeing it land apart from in the puddles that were forming, like we were half way between its path.
We left there and came back to Lakeside and had a shower and went out for food - which was in all honestly absolutely horrible! We ordered a garlic and onion pizza between the three of us and when it came it was all soggy and as its rude to leave food we ended up smuggling some of it into a plastic bag when noone was looking and then putting it inside my backpack! This left us in lots of giggles - especially when the owner of the resurant sat with us to play a few games of cards! After that we went to a bar called Busy Bee where we listened to an amazing live band and then to lots and lots of Bob Marley - drinking beer and singing along. An Israli man (Sagi) Kim and Philippa know from the Rainbow childrens home joined us which was really nice. He had lots of pictures of Chitwan which has made me very excited for when I go there in a few weeks time!
On saturday we woke up to lovely bright blue skies which was a total comparision to the night before - ive never seen so much rain! We left Bindus at 12 and headed for food at Lumbini where we always go for breakfast - they have two really lovely children as well which we play with when we go. We hired bikes for two days and then headed up to Damside to Devis Falls which was amazing! We manged to walk round and go down the stream where nobody else was and I climbed some rocks into the middle! The views were amazing.
As we left me and Philippa went into a cave which was a bit of a disappointment - it was a little shine down lots of steps - couldnt take any pictures though which was a shame. And there was this funny little thing called "cowshed" which was basically this tunnel which had a plastic cow in and smelt awful and had a little man sat there doing some paperwork!
As we were about to cycle back to Lakeside this man told us about a place we should go which was better than Devis Falls and down in a bank so we headed there. I have to say the views were absoluey amazing! We walked over the bridge (quite scary) and down to be bythe river... it was nice to sit with our feet in there and just do nothing and relax - think we are planning on heading back there one day with food and our books as it was amazing! I got a bit arty farty with my camera and used the different settings to take lots of pictures as the sun was setting and look beautiful shining across the water.
On the way home it started to rain - and my bike decided it didnt like me and the chain came off... this happened several times on the way home but we got back just fine and it was so nice to have a cold shower before we went out for food. When we got back we sat in the common room and drank vodka and coke and chatted to Jess who arrived that day - its really nice to have somebody else new here!
Today has been great as well - I managed to change my bike and me, Jess and Kim cycled to Tuntunga to go to the disabled home there and spent some time just sat and talking and played some skittles. On the way up the last little hill we met a man who said he would like to come in with us for a while, he was also staying in Lakeside, at university in America and doing some kind of study on the economy in Nepal and how to make tourist things better - with relation to the water industry. The lovely thing about going anywhere in Nepal is that they always offer you food and drink and ake you feel so welcome. We had some fresh mango from the tree which was soooo sour, and Kim and Jess didn't like it and kept trying to hide it (seems to be the best thing to do with food we don't like...) and then Jess pointed out this plant they were drying - which just happened to be some kind of curry plant and they asked us to try it... it was lets just say unusual - you had to chew on it and then spit it out - attractive I know! Again the views were stunning... but I think they are everywhere we go - everywhere is so green and beautiful and as much as I take pictures I dont think it does it justice - tere is nothing around for miles and miles and its so peaceful. As Kim and Jess sat down before we biked back I went off exploring to take some pictures, and I think they laugh at me as I get really excited and childish over how amazing it all is and how breathtaking - especially when theres noone else really around and sometimes it just feels like time is standing still and theres only you around.
My second bike also decided it didnt like me and kept clicking in and out out gear so as a bus passed we waved it down on the offchance we could take our bikes on it just to get a little bit further! We sat on the roof with our bikes which was great fun - the best way to travel! Although my bike decided it would like to work for some of the way back I discovered it had a puncture and that was why I was finding it so hard so we all pushed our bikes back... I cant believe how hot it been! We stopped at a little place on the way back to have a drink and cool down which was really nice and definately what we needed.
And now after having a shower and feeling much better and cleaner I am sat in the internet cafe! We are off to the steakhouse for tea tonight which should be really yummy! Back to school tomorrow which I'm very exicted about :)
So all in all a brilliant weekend - and I'm even starting to catch the sun!
Thinking of you all and missing you.
Loves and Smiles
