We are finally in the last week of camp! Its been a long slog but a lot of fun along the way!
I somehow managed to win the assasins game that I mentioned in my last blog. Had shot 8 people in total when the game ended with a midnight shoot out. There were 4 of us left and we has 30minutes at midnight to stalk each other across camp and shoot one another before the second shooters were sent out. Once the second shooters were sent out it was a case of last man standing as there is no way to kill them! I decided that the way to win would be to find a hiding place that no one could find me and let the game play out around me....so I climbed 25ft up a fur tree on camp and stayed very quiet. The game played out in my view and eventually I was called as the winner and asked to reveal myself. It gave everyone a laugh when I yelled out from up in the branches.
We had a staff party (photos in the album) with the theme 'Reality TV'. I went with a friend JR as contestants from a USA game show 'The Amazing Race'. In the game contestants work in pairs racing across the globe completing various tasks. So we went dressed in shorts, vests with rucksacks and walking shoes etc. It was a great evening. Some of the male artistic staff dressed as 'The real housewives of Loch Sheldrake'. They looked amazing, fake nails and all!
Three of us walked up 'Peekamoose Mountain' which was very hard work. It was pretty steep uphill climbing all the way for 3.5miles. We were very sweaty and tired when we got to the top, but the views were worth it (see photo above!). Our ears even popped as we walked up which was a very strange experience.
I had a scary camper experience a couple of weeks ago. At 1am a camper decided to run outside on camp and was seen and then disappeared! I was on duty and was about to wake up all of the counselors to start doing room sweeps to work out who it was. The staff who were still up and about were gathering flashlights ready for a search. Luckily she came to me on the floor before we caused complete chaos. She was homesick and had decided that she needed air. It was scary for about 15minutes though.
Our counseling staff on our floor had a Group Leader appreciation day, so myself and the other Group Leader on my floor were really spoilt with lost of hugs and nice notes. It was really lovely and a good boost when we were so tired.
This session we are playing a game called Secret Pal. Everyone who wants to be involved is assigned another person and your job is to leave them fun notes, little presents and generally make them feel good. One girl had a rap sang to her at lunch time which was funny. My secret pal has been leaving me hand drawn comic strips about how I am trying to save care bears from an evil person along with my side kick 'Hapi Koala'. I have even been given an oragami Koala which made me smile. Its a really nice way to end the summer.
Our last staff party was on Thursday with the theme 'Care Bear vs Zombies'. It was a fantastic night, however the 1 1/2 hours sleep I managed to get before having to be up and working again was not so much fun. There are lots of photos in my Stagedoor 2011 album if people want to take a look.
The fire alarm went off at 7.50am a few days ago. It was a sharp awakening and not much fun trying to evacuate all the children at that time. Turned out it was just the sprinkler system having an electrical problem, but it was a bit scary. I also wished I had thought about wearing underware under my PJ's the night before! Luckily no one tried to pull my PJ bottoms down, otherwise they would have got a shock!
Thats about all from here. Show weekend is going to be crazy as usual, unfortunatley the weather is not looking good. Thunderstorms and rain, so we are all set to look amazing in out waterproofs and wellies when parking cars!
Am heading back into NYC for two nights next week, followed by LA for a week. Will attempt to blog from LA before I get to New Zealand if I can. Hope you are all well at home. Em xxxxx
