So, we are almost at the end of 2nd session! Its been crazy hot over here, up in the 100's. But luckily today its cooled down again, its actually a bit like home as its rained all day.
Saying goodbye to my campers from 1st session was sad, but theres not much time to breath as the second group arrive the following day.
The camp owner Cindy has a pot of giant chocolate covered raisins in her office and they have become one of my favourites, so much so that the lids now reads "Emily's Sanity!"
Its been another busy session. We've been adding to our work load with pranks. As a team of 4 group leaders with our boss Barb we stole and held to ransom an inflatable monkey who lives in the technical teams chill out area area and is a bit like their mascot. The technical (tech) department when a little mad questioning everyone. But somehow we managed to throw them off our scent!
Everyday a different photo of the monkey appeared (eg - Day 1 - Monkey gagged with a gun to his head with a ransom note, Day 2 - Monkey with a clock and the words 'time is ticking' etc etc). After a couple of days some of the other groups on camp who are known for playing pranks were so worried about what tech might do to them for revenge they started posting disclaimers after tech posted some notes saying they would not bow to terrorists and would get revenge. So we jumped on the band wagon posting our own disclaimer. By this point tech were so clueless they started searching the office and all paperwork trying to compare people's hand writing (this certainly made us laugh!).
Eventually we packaged the monkey up and gave him back along with a photo of ourselves...they were still pretending to be angry but we all laughed! We are currently awaiting their revenge...and im sure its going to be big!
We had a movie trip to see the final Harry Potter movie with all the kids which was great. We got to watch it in 3D and there were plenty of dramatic tears and clapping from 291 theatre kids.
Also, a staff game we play during this session is called 'assassins'. Everyone signs up and gets a water pistol. Each person is given the name of another member of staff they have to assasinate. The kids can not know about the game, no one can see you kill the person (obviously a kill is made when you shoot them with water) Also, different departments have places they are safe so that no ones work is affected. The game lasts for two weeks and provides a good amount of paranioa. Ive shot 6 people so far so am doing quite well. I stalked one of my targets for 45minutes last night at 1am! My stalk even involved some crawling across the floor so as not to be seen. Im not sure i'll be in until the end, but im hoping to get a few more people before I die.
Four of us took a trip to Six Flags which is a huge theme park about three hours from camp on our day off. It has 10 HUGE rollercoasters. One is a standing one which is a weird sesnation, one where you are held facing the floor so it feels like your flying. Another is a wooden rollercoaster, a bit like a runaway train. It goes 20 stories high and reaches a speed of 70mph. But, the best of all was the second tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the world... 0-128mph in 3.5seconds followed by a climb up to 465ft (the same height as the HSBC building at Canary Wharf in London) and then a drop straight down with a corkscrew (there should be some photos of it in my album). It was terrifying but such fun at the same time.
Am off hiking in the mountains on my day off this week. Three of us have found a 7mile round trip to the top of a mountain called Peekamoose so we are off to do that. The views look stunning from pictures we have seen on the internet. Theres also great mountain streams and pools for when we get too hot and fancy a dip. Let just hope we done meet any bears!
Hope everyones well at home. Em xxxx
