So, im still at camp and this weekend is show weekend! We have 13 different shows in 7 different theatre spaces. There are shows at 1.30 & 7.30 both Friday and Saturday along with a show that performed Thursday evening and this morning. Most of the 280 kids here have their parent to come and watch so that camp is buzzing.
Yesterday it was very wet and rainy and as a Group Leader I spend most of my time suring show weekend on parking so a group of us ended up looking very much like drowned rats. That was until I was given a pair of waterproof camoflage dungarees! Of course I looked my best and breathed a sigh of relief that no cameras were around.
Today its a beautiful day so we are covered in suncream and attempting to enjoy some heat.
This group of campers leave tomorrow which will be sad but theres no time to sit around as we clean all the rooms and camp tomorrow and then the next set arrive on Monday and the three week cycle starts again :)
One of the shows this session is the off premier of 'Spring Awakening' off Broadway. I managed to watch their dress rehearsal the other day and I think they are almost as good as the cast I saw in London's west end. Its scary how much talent the kids here have!
I had a lovely day off last week with a few of the other staff. We took a trip to Woodstock village which is very picturesque and nice to wander around. We were lucky that it was another sunny day. Its quite a hippy area with a few strange looking characters wandering around but all the buildings are old and each shops is intersting.
Next week a group of us are planning a trip to Six Flags in New Jersey. Its a huge theme park which I am really looking forward to going to. Tonight is the night the kids are allowed to stay up for as long as they want so as staff we all work split shifts so that everyone gets some sleep. They tend to go crazy and eat enough junk food for a small army, and then just get high on sugar and spend the night running around being noisy... I think I may need my ear plugs in tonight.
Its strange to think I have another 6 weeks here! We really are in the middle of no where. The closest bar is 1mile away and the supermarket is a drive, which makes it tricky when you are English without a car. One massive thing for us whilst we live for 3 months in this bubble that is Stagedoor is post! Its so nice to get letters or packages so if anyone has a spare 5 minutes and fancies writing a letter it would be so good to hear from you. My address is: Emily Hardy Staff, Stagedoor Manor, 116 Karmel Road, Loch Sheldrake, NY 12759 USA.
Sending lots of love to everyone!
