Helloo!
Okay so my album "Vittorio Emmanuele" ect. is from a class site visit at the monument. Basically, the monument was constructed to represent the unification of Italy, yet italians in Rome HATE it. They think its ugly and too big, which i agree. We went into the museum, which was actually somewhat disappointing. For such a big monument you would think the museum there would be large and interesting. I saw Garibaldis pants, so that was pretty cool? (He was one of the rebels that helped bring the southern part of italy to unify with the north). So after that, i decided to walk around and explore Rome some more. The fist Piazza in the pictures is one that was constructed by Michaelangelo. Pretty cool. From there i went to the Trevi Fountain to eat the lunch i packed, its so magical and beautiful! Definately have to make it there again. After that i walked down Via Del Corso which is all the high end fashion shops for the most part, which led me to Piazza De Popolo. That was intersting. From there i hiked up some steps so get to a park that looks over the piazza. I wandered around there and laid in the grass for a while until some creepy italian tried to join me and asked me to kiss him. um. GROSS. i told him i was obviusly laying there alone for a reason and he just killed my peaceful day so i got up and left. Seriously, who do these guys think they are? Its not an invitation if im alone. So that was the end of that day, i just went home to start studying for midterms after that, excting.
okay moving forward to the better stuff. FLORENCE!
So i took a morning train there and arrived around noon. I headed to the duomo to meet up with a kid from my program that was also there, his name is David. So i saw the giant red dome, and the Duomo, then headed to walk around the city. We walked around the Via Del Corso there, saw the Neptune Fountain, Saw a palace (which didnt look like a palace, it was just a bunch of statues, theres picutes up of it), Saw a giant bronze hog and rubbed its nose, then headed to the river. From there we walked along the river and saw the Pone Veccio Bridge, which is supposably known for jewlrey shopping. But i dontknow how anyone can afford ANY of the jewlrey that wsa there it was ridiculously exspesnice. So we continued to follow the river to walk up about A BAJILLION steps to get to Piazzale Michaelangelo, which looks over the entire city. The view was breathtaking!
After that we headed to Piazza Di Santa Croce to go to the church there. It was really neat! Michaelangelo, Galileio, Dante, Machiavelli, Alferio, Donatello, and Foscolos tombs are all there. I really enjoyed getting to see all those becuase im learning about all of those/have in my classes so it ws cool i could connect to the real thing!
After that we headed to see the real statue of David. We sat in there for a while and i tried to sneak a few pics, they are so anal about no pictures but i got a snapshot. Whats the point of seeing it if you cant take a piccture to remember? anyways, its HUGGGEEE. we figured that his right hand seems a little too large for his body, its much bigger than his butt. HA
aAfter that i figured i pretty much saw everything that i wanted to, so i went to the train station to get on an earlier train to head home.
So im heading into midterms and papers now so thats going to be taking over my life for the next 2 weeks. YAY.
And i wrote out some postcards today, so expect one in the next 2 weeks!
Ciao
