Took a trip to Rottnest Island, about 45 minutes catamaran ride from Perth. Rottnest has 63 secluded beaches and 20 beautiful bays, it measures 11 km long and 4.5 km at its widest point. There are no private vehicles or taxi's available on the island, just a bus or bike hire. On this occasion we decided on the bus mode - it was a really hot day.
Took Mum and Dad to Mandurah to see inside our new house, I think they were impressed ! we then took an hours boat trip around the waterways and canals of Mandurah, which is like mini Venice, with 40 foot Sunseekers parked on private jetty's at bottom of gardens, with dolphins feeding from garden walls - beautiful.
Saturday26th was Australia Day, the biggest public party in Western Australia, larger than Christmas or New Years Eve! It was also Rich's first operational duty !! Public order foot patrol on the banks of the Swan River which he thoroughly enjoyed, and apparently found being overtly armed with a glock handgun took 3 - 4 hours of getting used to. All in all a great experience he says. Mum Dad Finn and I went to Point Walter with a nice picnic, it is a spot a bit further afield where there is a small bay further round the Swan River, but has a clear view of Perth's spectacular skyline which was the central focus to 'Skyworks 2008'. 30 minutes of constant fireworks all choreographed wonderfully to music, proceeded by 2 - 3 hours of air display.
Sunday was a sad day - Mum and Dad left mid afternoon, but not without a picnic of dips and nibbles in 'Kings Park'.
Quiet next few days - Rich is now on a 2 week driving course !
