Thursday
After missing our initial flight we finally made it safe and sound in Amsterdam. The first two nights we were staying with Siobhans friend from Melbourne Reuben, who is over doing exchange and staying in student accommodation. Reuben took us out to an indie vegan youth hangout, which served cheap beers and food. It was really nice out the back, it looked like someone's backyard with lots of old couches to lounge about on. We met lots of Reubens friends from university, but after not much more than five hours sleep in the last two days we weren't our normal sociable selves so had a relatively early night.
Friday
On Friday we went into town and Went out for breakfast and did a bit of shopping. Amsterdam was unlike any city we've visited before, had lots of very strange shops but was a very beautiful city, had lots of beautiful parks and many rivers running through it. We walked around the city all day then had a picnic in the park for the rest of the day. We had delicious pizza for dinner that night and as we had planned to get up at four in the morning the next day to go to an Australian pub to watch the AFL grand final, we had another early night.
Saturday
After pressing the snooze button about seven times that morning, we decided to skip getting up to watch the footy in favor of a sleep in. That day we hired bikes and cycled to a little country town called Marken an hour and a half out of the city, or at least attempted to. Twenty minutes in, Bonnies bike broke and we had to go back into town to swap it for another one. Another ten minutes in Bonnies bag got caught in the wheel of the new bag, and we spent half an hour trying to cut it out of the chain. We decided to catch the bus and meet Reuben and his friends there. When we got there we had a few well deserved beers and explored the little town which was unlike anything we'd seen before. It had heaps of tiny little cottages and looked like Hogsmeade from Harry Potter. It was also completely surrounded by water apart from a tiny road you used to access the island. We had a beautiful lunch of fish and chips by the dock.
