Had to get up to VJC to coach at the earlier time of 8.30 today, but I actually finished at 11.00, so that was nice; especially as it was a cooler morning (but still over 30 degrees and humid!). The highlight of my day then happened... As I was about to leave VJC, a dad got picked up his kid who had just been training, in a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Spyder in bright yellow with carbon fibre everywhere. Literally everywhere that wasn't yellow was carbon fibre. He saw me taking a few photos, and as he drove past he stopped and we chatted for about 5 minutes. He was a very nice guy, until he tried to tell me "I'm not the sort of guy to go out and buy a big and bright supercar"... After this, I headed back towards the apartment and to one of my 'boltholes', the food court under the Shopping centre. This place gets really busy around lunch, and even worse at the weekend. I shared my table with a Singaporean couple (probably aged about 70-80) and spent most the the time talking - they were very interesting people, and were also interested in what I was doing. I still found time to eat my favourite meal so far.... Duck and Noodles. I then headed up to Starbucks in the Shopping Centre and spoke on Skype to Mum and Dad which was really nice. I then caught a bus into the centre, had another fruit juice at Lau Pa Sat, then headed over and explored Raffles Hotel area for a short time. For food tonight, I had (you can guess) and took it to (you can guess again!), before walking to Starbucks where I spoke to Dad and the girls on Skype which was lovely. Funny to think our normal weekend lunch is happening as I am writing this, in the evening, in Singapore.
I had a very lazy start to Monday, as training wasn't until 14.00. From what I understand, all the sessions this week are in the evening as many of the children are back at school. Anyway, I got up at about 10.00 and wandered over to the Shoppng Centre for food and also I wanted to get a cheap phone so I don't have to rely on my one as it has an horrendous battery life. I had breakfast/lunch of freshly made traditional noodles which were really tasty, before sorting out a phone and sim card. I then headed off to Tanglin Trust School (a very British school with very expensive fees) where the coaching was that afternoon. That finished at about 16.00, and got back to the apartment at about 16.45. It was a trek to get there and back, having to catch a bus and then go most of the way round the Circle line MRT. After a shower and crashing under the A/C, I didn't feel like more hawker food, so I went to one of the restaurants overlooking the sea. The meal was good - I had a salad which made a nice change to duck, noodles and rice, before heading back to the apartment (via McDonald's to use their toilet as it is far nicer than ours!!) where I will probably just crash, watch something on YouTube and then go to sleep once I have uploaded this. Not sure what I will do tomorrow yet as I think I have until late afternoon/evening before football. I don't want to do too much in the city as I will have time to do that when I am back from Australia, and I also don't want to tire myself out, but you will see what I decide to do in the next blog!
I hope these are okay, and not too long. If they are, let me know. I hope everyone in England is enjoying your slightly warm weather. The average daily temperature here is 36 degrees plus humidity at the moment, so don't moan you are too hot!
